Yes! I'd like to know as well....LOL, I am a supply junkie too and since I was a child just the smell of school supplies made me euphoric--I know I know it makes me sound like such a geek hehe...but I really do like being prepared and having everything I need! Also there are things that you know to get and things that only someone else can tell you is essential whether it's recommended or not!

I just finished my CNA course! I took it at a local community college.

    I used:
    a notebook
    my assigned textbook
    highlighters, pens, pencils, scantrons
    white scrubs
    white all-leather tennis shoes
    wristwatch
    an extra clinical pen
    stethoscope

You'll also need (at least for my program )
    $25 for a drug test
    $50 for fingerprinting
    $85 for testing fees
    a physical/vaccinations

I am looking into CNA programs, mostly at community colleges around the area, and was wondering if you are required to take a drug test PRIOR to starting the program?

Some places do drug test for me in mn. they just required a back ground check at no cost extra for that for me, but i did need a TB test that I had done at with my own DR.

LOL, I read this and the first thing I thought was that you are a drug user. Maybe you are, maybe you aren't.. but as someone who is not (myself), they can test me every week, prior and after, and I wouldn't care.

I used a notebook, several pens and highlighters, scrubs (various colors), comfortable white sneakers and a watch with a minute hand. The school supplied the text books. I bought my own stethoscope and blood pressure cuff. The school offered to let us use theirs to take them home to practice with, but because I am not kosher of the "community stethoscope" idea, I purchased my own.

My program actually required us to buy a stethoscope. They told us that on the first day of class and let us use "community" stethoscopes. Which brings me to my suggestion of keeping individually packed alcohol wipes in your pocket...

We also had to have comfortable white shoes, a watch with a minute hand (preferably without a fabric band), our own BP cuffs, scrubs of whatever color the program required (navy blue for me), and our own gait belt (worn around your waist so you knew it was yours). Otherwise, pens, paper, books...and so on and so forth.

I guess it depends on the state or even the program, regarding drug tests. One program I was looking into required we pay upwards of $100 for a background check , but did not mention a drug test. I think that more than likely you will have to submit a drug test for a prospective employer though. Another thing is this: some programs will require that you have a Hep. B vaccination done. However, your prospective employer will probably pay for that. It might be in your interest to see if they will, because the series is expensive & it might not be covered by your insurance (mines did not cover it).

My CNA supply list was this:

    Two pairs of white scrubs
    A pair of white shoes
    Book & Workbook
    Notebook
    Pens & Highlighters
Stethoscope (buy your own, I don't really like sharing with others lol)
    BP Cuff
    Watch with second hand

I'd be a little careful about buying too much stuff before class starts - in my program the school gets us a 25% discount on supplies - including scrubs, shoes, stethoscopes, etc. For example - the basic stethoscope can cost anywhere from $3-$200+, and the suggested scope was only $7.50 with our discount, you could spend alot extra if you were trying to buy things in advance.
