Today one of the residents wanted to see how tall I was, he said turn around, so I did. When I did he grabbed my rear end. two handfulls of it. I shrieked and swatted his hand away. He talks dirty but has been all bark no bite until today.

Has this ever happened to you?

I told my supervisor and we will be somehow getting him off my assignment list.

We have a couple like that. And its not always the men who grab you in such places, just to warn you. Its great your supervisor took him off your assignment but be aware it won't always be like that. Its tough I remember its not assault, that they aren't in their right mind and I'm in control. So I firmly tell them its not cool and go on with their care. If they keep it up, I go get my supervisor who takes over. But at our place their is a limit and if they keep it up their family has to send them elsewhere. They figure it out pretty quick. If you get him again, always remember his behavior and that he'll try and trick you.

Get used to it...

It's going to happen.

It even happens to us guys. I have had a lady with Alzheimer's that would follow men around, pinch their bottom and then smile and wink at them. Shrug.

Always tell the nurse. YUCK-YUCK-YUCK - I detest the ones like that and most know exactly what they are doing. Thier families generaly know and try to use the senial excuse - imagine what they were when they were on the loose? They disgust me - watch out if you put them in bed also. They will try to trick you and try to grab you around the neck and force a thier tongues in your mouth. Be firm and don't let them think you will excuse it even slightly - be professional. Don't do extra cognant care unless you see wet pants or smell something. Thoose one often will ask for extra changes when they are dry.

There was a male patient who did that. He would grab breasts and rear ends. The excuse was "He has dementia and he doesn't know what he is doing" but someone else said "If that's true, why doesn't he grab a person's hand or arm? Why their breasts?" You just have to be really careful.

The women at my LTC are worse than the men about grabbing you. i once had a male resident choke me though because he tried to kiss me and i wouldnt let him. i had bruises for a week! some residents are strong so you do need to be careful!

Forget getting grabbed. How many of us have been laid out by an 90+ year old Mike Tyson!

:D

OH me, me, pick me! how about getting a black eye from a 78 pound woman that has both hands and feet amputated!

Heh 95+ old 90 pound Alzheimer lady laid me out. TKO.

Only black eye I ever had. I'm glad I never met HER in a dark alley in her prime. :D

Specializes in LTC.

When residents get handsy with me I take their hands, put them in their lap, shake my head very slowly and say "no" and then I redirect them.

Whether sexually aggressive behavior is or isn't related to dementia doesn't matter. It is inappropriate, needs to be documented and addressed. We don't let residents walk out the door just because they want to. I have a very simple rule. Residents can do or get anything they want to as long as it is safe, reasonable and appropriate. Sexually aggressive behavior violates all three.

Yep that has happened to me. It disgusts me, and plenty of them are aware of what they are doing. I had one guy ask me if I was married and if I would date him. Told my supervisor and I am no longer allowed to take care of him (thank god). He has done this to other CNAs and nurses as well. However, not much we can say to them.
