Private Duty!

Hello fellow CNA's. How can I get a one on one patient without Agency involved, any ideas??? I live in Takoma Park, MD, but I'm willing to work in MD/DC/and or VA. Thanks info will be appreciated.

Have you checked want ads? I know in my area I see around 5 postings everyday. Or you could advertise.

Sometimes churches have needs for elder care. Also, the suggestion of advertising is a great idea.

I am not, nor have I ever been a CNA...however where I am from they have what are called "PCA's" (personal care attendant) that either can work for an agency or are hired privately by the patient/patients family.

I have mixed feelings on this.....they work very hard , but the ones I have dealt with (private hire, not through agency) are kind of the ones trying to run the show...I even refused to go back to a home I oriented to & did one shift because they were trying to delegate to me not the other way around.....

I am hoping it was just the luck of the draw because I know I have seen some really great ones out there.....

So after that little diddy....maybe that can be an option to you???? You can maybe check with a homecare company that can get you in contact with families that use PCA's........also...before I forget....since PCA's are private usually..they can still be on duty even when a nurse is on...because they are not working for the agency that has the nurse coming in......that's just been my experience....so good luck!

One thing for sure, now that I think about it, be clear on what your duties will be. For an agency, it is spelled out for you, but if you are endorsing yourself, be clear on what you want to do. For example, you are NOT a MAID...you do BASIC housekeeping, such as the immediate area of the patient, and bathroom, but do not scrub floors or wash windows. Make sure that they pay you if you work longer than the agreed hours, also.

Have u tried hospice or the local hospitals? they do one on ones.

When you say that the private hires are trying to run the show, what do you mean? Are they always calling you?
