How long did it take you to find a job?

Hi Everyone,

I will be starting my CNA class on Jan 18. and I wanted to know how long it took you after you passed your exam to find a job?

A week. I filled out applications to every nursing home within driving distance (about 7). Two of them called me for interviews within a couple days. I was hired pretty much on the spot for the second place so I never followed up with the first one. The place I work at hires everyone, I'm pretty sure. I don't think they turn anybody down. They just hire you and if they don't like you after a few weeks they fire you.

The other places I applied to never called me. But then again I never called to inquire about the status of my application or anything like that, because I didn't need to.

After finishing my CNA class, I had to wait 5 weeks before I could take my CNA exam, so I decided to apply as a Companion while I waited. I got hired 3 days before my CNA test in home health. Once I took and passed my exam, I was raised $2 an hour and have been working there now for 5 months! =) I guess I am blessed....it was the only place I applied to and I love it!

Hi everyone - I'm new to the thread and am interested if anyone knows anything about the Cornerstone College's or NCP's programs. Does anyone know of other CNA programs worth considering in the SF Bay area? I'm hoping to start a nursing program by Fall and need some valuable experience!

Thanks :)

My state allows you to work as a "Nurse Aide Trainee II" after you complete clinicals but before you take the state test. I started going to nursing homes and applying a few days after my clinicals ended, and the third place I applied interviewed and hired me on the spot.

took and passed my cna test on wednesday and was hired on the spot on thursday...took them a week to do background check and schedule a physical with employee health and i got 3 days of orientation with a long time cna then put on my own....been there two years on august 11 2010.

wow, i hope i'll be able to find a job as quick as you all have. lol

I received my certification on December 6. I was hired at a SNF the day that I put in my application. Total time was about a month.

I have a question to ask, so usually when we go to turn in the application, can we wear jean and sweater or do we have to dress up?

Also congrats to all that found the job so quick like that:yeah:, I'm a new cna, grad about 3 months ago and still no one hiring me, hopefully I can find a job soon too.

This thread is very interesting b/c I also wanna know too, so hopefully there will be more ppl come to share too!!

If I'm filling out an application, I'll just wear something casual, but I make sure it's something nice & appropriate just in case I get to meet with the DON or somebody from HR(its happened twice when I've filled out applications)

It took me two months to find a job & it was very rough. Even when I did get a job, the job was for every other weekend. But they assured me "oh just give it time, we'll be able to offer you more time".

Nine months later, and I'm still just working every other weekend, with a day or two during the week here or there(oh did I mention that the people they've hired after me get more hours than I do?!? ). I'm applying like crazy, but it's very rough out here :(

but, hey something is better than nothing, right!:p bcos it give us valuable experience!

As soon as I gave up on getting a job at my choice of hospital with no experience, I was hired at the first nursing home I strolled into and asked for an application.
