I'm currently a CNA at an ALF and I LOVE my job, love the residents, and love love love my shift... 7-3. I've always been more of a morning person and have no problem getting up in the morning- not to mention that my work is 5 minutes away, which is a plus. I'm switching to the 3-11 shift in a couple weeks to cover for a girl on maternity leave for a couple months. I am very very sad to have to leave my shift  I know I might sound like a baby but I have gotten very used to working with the day nurses and other day CNA's and we are all a great team and always help each other out.

SO, all of you 3-11 people out there, can you tell me what you love about your shift? I've never worked 3-11 before and I'm just wondering if any of you prefer this shift. Thanks. :heartbeat

I have worked both days and second shifts. I love second shift- it's more laid back- And putting the residents to bed is much better than getting them up- YOu get hugs and kisses as you tuck them into bed.

Hope that helps and good luck

Yup, definately more laid back. I worked days for a year before coming to pm's and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It took a little bit of time to get used to it. I used to love the morning commute with the sun just coming up, but seeing the moon so bright in the sky is just as wonderous.

The people are a little different as well, but for me I plan on working the pm shift for a long time. Good luck, and if you don't like it, it won't be forever (as long as you get it in writing just in case) :nuke:

I gotta say I have worked 2nd shift for over a year now.. AN I definitely love 2nd shift better.. An I like all the hug and I love you when you put the residents to bed.. An actual I have a lady that when I put her to bed she always says I love it you help me.. It just really gets to me...:)

Oh I LOVE working 2nd and 3rd shift! It's all I've ever done! I've filled in on mornings a few times, but honestly, I'm just not a morning person. I work at a local hospital, and love to help people if they're having trouble sleeping, a rough night, or just getting a warm fuzzy blanket for them! You'll love it! I think mornings are just too hectic for my likings...it seems like there is such a rush, and doing the later shifts I think I get to spend more time with the patients, and get to know them better.

I hope you like it!

I agree, generally more laid back not nearly as hectic as 1st shift. it's just vs, dinners, and bed.

you will do great! i have worked all 3 shifts and 2nd is really the best. it is laid back and there isn't managment looking over your shoulder all the time and it's not near as hectic. i also get to meet a lot of the paitent's families. families always seem to come after they are done with work. it is nice to see more than just the patient. i get to spend a lot more time with my patients on 2nd shift than fist. there just isn't so much to do and you have time to do the little extra things that 1st shift really doesn't have time for. you will love it!!!! good luck and keep your chin up.

I've had plenty of both and 3-11 is definitely preferable. Management is there long enough to put your $0.02 in, and then they split by dinner time. You have a nice lull at 3p to get showers/baths done. And then when you're tired at the EOS, go home and right to bed. Sometimes you even have time to walk the residents and do some ROM's. Plus you can have your CNA cart outside the resident's room after dinner (a HUGE no-no at our place on 7-3).

You'll love it!
