ged or high school diploma for cna?

I plan to start cna classes soon. My best friend wants to take them with me, but she doesnt have her ged or high school diploma. I know that the two schools I've got info from has told me that you do not need a ged or high school diploma to take the classes. I didnt ask them but I was wondering if that meant that she would also be able to become certified? and, or will It have an effect on her when trying to apply for a job. I know that most employers want you to have at-least a high shool diploma or ged. but I've heard of many cnas not having either. I was thinking that since cna is such a high demanding feild that It would be easy for her to get a job regardless! after-all she is a really great loving and caring person. and I'm sure she will make a great cna.

To get into my CNA class I had to bring a copy of my High School Diploma, or you would have to take a TABES EXAM....

My CNA course did not require a GED or HS diploma. Your friend needs to find out from the program if either are required. Here, people can take medical assisting at a private vocational school but a diploma or GED is required for LPN. Your friend really needs to get a GED or better yet a regular HS diploma to help her in life. Many employers will hire graduates over nongraduates, even for something as basic as CNA. With the job market the way it is, she needs to do everything to better her chances at getting a job.

i believe in MN at the red cross, you just have to pass 8th grade english.i dont think you even had to graduate or anything. i got my ged right before i started, i think it just helps with job placement. good luck to the both of you!!

I agree with everyone about it being a good idea to get your or her should I say GED because a lot of employers wll want you to have it, if not the first job, the second and so on. Best to just get it over with so you aren't held back at all.

Getting the GED is not just a good idea, it's a MUST. This is one of the best things your friend can do for herself. Please use all your influence to get your friend to go for the GED.
