First Day of Clinicals was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I just wanted to share this with you guys. Today was my first day of clinicals. It was just so wonderful I can't wait to go back tomorrow. My preceptor was really nice. The residents were so gosh darnit cute and adorable. One lady would sit in the hallway all day long just screaming and complaining. So myself and another student went to her and she said she had to go to the bathroom really bad. We helped her on the commode and she did #2 and was just thanking us the whole time. Needless to say she had diarehha (however you spell it), so she ended up pooping on the floor and her clothes. That ended up being a bit messy, but she felt so good afterwards.

In the dinning room they played oldies songs. They played some Issac Hayes and this one woman was just "oohhing" and "ahhiing" and twitching to the song. I thought she was about to have an orgasm. I met the "princess" of the floor. We changed her diaper, then she said she wanted the yellow one, so we changed it again. She wanted to be positioned at a certain angle and we had to do it a couple times to get it right. She was very picky about everything. She even wanted us to shave her nether regions, but we were unable to. I tried not to laugh the whole time. Then I go into the hallway and the first woman is still screaming. So I sit with her and talk to her. Show her some pictures in my phone, took a couple of her so she could see herself. I even read a book to her and she loved it. She just wanted some company. Then I went to feed a woman and she just kept asking me to put whisky in her drink. I laughed and told her I couldn't.

Theres so much more I could say, but the job is amazing. Its disgusting, exhausting, frustrating, but worth every single moment to be with those residents. I just wanted to tear up with the amount of love and compassion I felt for them. :heartbeat I think if you go in there knowing what to expect, you find that it isn't so bad afterall. I love it and I know this is where I want to be.:yeah:

thats great that you had such a good day! you will meet some of the funniest, weirdest, loudest, angry, sweetest, amazing type of people, doing this kind of work. it open's your eyes to many things. get used to those soiled clothes and komod's filled with gifts lol oh the excitment!!! haha until the real work begins and you realize you are responsible for those 8-10 residents you will be caring for.

soon they wont be some cute lil old person who says funny things and you get to hang out with, its oh crap! i still have to toilet 4 other people!!! lol

not to be a negative nelly.

usually depend/underwear/brief is a better word rather than diaper.

i would also be very careful with cell phones on the floor. esp if your taking pictures of residents. that can quickly be turned against you, its a privacy thing and can be considered abuse. its one thing if it is a camara that the home uses for activities and such, but they dont know what your going to do with such pictures etc. i cant tell you how many people i wish i had a picture of, just to remember them, but i cannot take them myself. its a vulnerable adult delio law.

anyways! best of luck to you on your new adventure!!!

That is so awesome that you had a great first day!! I dont start my class for another 13 days, but your post has made me even more excited! Keep me posted as to how its going!:yeah:

That's wonderful! You're going to be a great CNA. I can tell by your post you have lots of compassion and empathy for the pts. Always keep that attitude and you will do great. It's an amazing feeling knowing that you are doing something so worthwhile and making the life of someone better, even when you're elbow deep in poo
