Finally got a job offer, at a great hospital!

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Yesterday evening, I found out the regional hospital wants to offer me a position! I don't know any details about pay, when I'll start work, not until I speak to HR on Monday.

I had such an affirming, open, and positive interview there about a week and a half ago. I was just astonished they called me only a day and a half after I dropped my resume with them, and wanted to talk to me post-haste. But then at the end of the interview the nurse said she sees passion in my eyes, and a professional attitude, and desire, so she was recommending me for hire! I walked back to my car floating on clouds, LOL.

The hospital building is 6 or 7 years old, everything is state-of-the-art; the Senior Specialty Unit I'll be on delivers rehab care to non-dementia seniors over the age of 70. It is a progressive, experimental program only 2 years old. Everything is high-tech, hands-on. For instance, patients can do PT on a Wii; everybody charts on handheld computers; patients are given music at night to sleep to, instead of sedation; all patients get their meds reduced to 5 by the time they depart. There's more, I just don't want to go on forever! :)

They also have a great benefits package with tuition assistance, hooray! I'll work 3-on, one week, then 4-on the next, every other weekend, 12 hr days. Probably holidays as well, since I'll be the new person.

I did my CNA and PCA training over the summer. I had a year of experience already, as an "Elder Caregiver", which helped me get this job.

But I have probably put in my resume 50 times in many places, and have had about 10 interviews. I figured the odds got better with each hit, so I just kept going.

I have been laid off twice since 2007. I am SO glad someone wants me, is confident in me.

If you are still looking for work, do what I did and just canvas everybody. The odds will end up in your favor, the more apps and resumes you put out there, trust me.

And thanks to everybody here, also, for the encouragement along the way... allnurses is great!!!

Oh wow thats awesome!! I cant wait to get my license so I can start working as well! I am currently working at my local hospital as a Safe Sitter/Constant Observer and once I get my license I can get a job as a CNA there!! :yeah::D Congratulations to you though!! Persistence always pays off!

:yeah::yeah::yeah: :yeah:

Thanks you guys. :D

I just accepted the position about an hour ago. I go on December 28th to get my paperwork sorted and my tox screen and TB test done (although I had one over the summer, and she said they will probably accept that one, but wasn't sure). Then I start orientation on January 11th!

This is my first job in a hospital and my first job as a CNA. I feel incredibly blessed. Pay periods are 84 hours, on a 4-3 schedule. Boy am I gonna be DOG TIRED. It will take some stamina, since most all my life I've worked 8-5 office jobs. But I'm ready. I am gonna be hitting up the head nurse and my new co-workers for all their little secrets on foot care and sneaking breaks in to those 12 hour days.

And I'm sending my thoughts, prayers, good vibes, positive feelings, hopes, dreams, and best wishes out to you all who are still trying. I will keep thinking of you over the holiday season and into the New Year. Keep trying - persevere!

LOL - no "you all", only me. And thanks. And I don't have any advice except be yourself - but you'll probably get more replies if you actually make a thread about it, instead of burying it in an unrelated thread (like this one). Good luck! :)

Hi all

I just completed my cna and currently preparing for my state exam. Please let me know where to apply with no experince? Will i get job ever after passing state exam?

They're recommending you for hire? Have you started work yet? Did they specifically offer you a position and when they would be contacting you back? Was the person that recommended you for hire a person who specifically hires for that department or the departmene head? When they recommend you for hire it usually means that they don't have the final say and that they're pushing your name through a long with others. That's what was told to me when I went and interviewed for a job in the acute care. I was lucky that I ended up getting hired after I was recommended for hire. Wishing you the best!

Just a word of advice to all of you CNAs celebrating new jobs!!!! First, Congratulations!!!! I am sure you will all do well! As a former instructor, i wanted to be sure you all remember something about your certifications. You have to renew them every two years in most states and they have to be signed off by a facility. Most hospitals in particular will ask you if you have your certificate but when it comes time for renewal, you are on your own! Be sure to make some kind of WRITTEN ARRAINGMENT concerning certificate renewal or you can lose it. i tell my students to do whatever they can to hang on to that certificate especially in todays market. Just looking out for you!!!

My first day of orientation is 1/11. I've gotten all my insurance paperwork in, badge made, and my parking sticker is in the corner of the window. I just have to get some pieces of paperwork in to HR, make another pass with the employee health nurse, and head to the refresher classes on 1/11, then pick up my schedule on 1/12. :D

She did say when we had the interview, and she was going to recommend me, that it would take up to a week to 10 days. Reason being is that the economy was changing their hiring procedure, so instead of the department head checking me off, it had to go through the chain, up to the CEO, to get an OK. And it did take right at about a week or so. I knew enough when I posted that I wasn't grasping at straws, that I had a concrete offer of a position.

Not the greatest pay or best hours I've ever had in my life, but I'm excited nonetheless and ready to get there and start learning and doing.

ETA: Noreen, thanks for the reminder. I've got the date stuck in my electronic calendars, and written down elsewhere, so hopefully it won't get past me. :)
