CMA need same pay as RN

i am the only CMA where i work. there are about 8-9 nurses. For some reason, all of them think they are better than me just because they are nurses. in fact, i do most of their job. They get paid 30-40hr while i do most of their work for less than half that. I asked for more money, but my reply was "the nurses have to use their brain more" Then i started thinking of going back to get my RN degree. The minute i said something, all the other nurses "all of a sudden" wanted to go back to school. This made me think that they are trying to compete with me and not be equal to me. Most of them are lazy and really dont respect me. Whenever i have a problem with one of them, the NCM does not have my back. But believe me, she has theirs. I do know that there are other reasons why they do that i dont wish to get into. So i have decided not to express any interested of going back to school-at least to them. I have decided to be an ultrasound tech.

Anyway, I just think just because nurses give meds and CMA dont, we should get the same pay. I know that many people would disagree but thats my opinon

Darn, I need to move to Charlotte and make the BIG bucks!!

OP, you're not an RN and certainly don't deserve to make the same money as one.

Is this a troll?

I worked as a CMA before getting into nursing school so I can speak from experience. CMA's should not be paid the same as an RN...giving meds is not the only thing that RNs do that CMAs do not...they do a lot more than CMAs. And at risk of sounding snotty, nurses do use their brains more than CMAs...in a round about way, RNs use critical thinking skills, CMAs do not. The education level of an RN is multitudes more than a CMA...education and knowledge that a RN needs to practice with. You expect the RNs to respect you, but do you respect them? Doesn't sound like it with the attitude you have. If you are doing most of their job then you are outside of your scope of practice, unless this is just a situation of having an attitude about being delegated to. If you go back for your RN I think you will have a HUGE wake-up call and realize why RNs are paid more than CMAs, and why they should not be paid the same.

i totally disagree. you once being a CMA yourself didnt use your brain??? The only difference is your paycheck!!! which proves my point how much nurses think they are better. They are so paranoid that they will lose their liscense. i dont want to be like that which is why im not going to be an RN

Well, thank you for that!

Honestly, why are you on a site for nurses with no respect for what we do?!?

CMA's are professionals, and due deserve respect, but they are not entitled to the same pay as an RN. If you want the RN pay, you have to have the RN lisence to show for it. Oh, and saying the only difference between a CMA and a RN is med passing, you have no idea. CMA's can't pass meds, do IV's (meds or insertion), can't take verbal orders, etc. You have not had as much training as an RN, so you only deserve to be reimbursed for the training you do have. My advice, get your RN.

Ummmm...no. I used my brain as a CMA, what I have learned so far in nursing school (one semester left for my BSN) by far surpasses anything that I had to know as a CMA (and yeah, I graduated with Honors from my medical assisting program which was from a JC). The difference is not the pay check, its is SO much more, like skill level, education level, and knowledge base to name just a few. It is no wonder the nurses in your practice do not respect you, your insulting comments and attitude are off putting. There is a reason RNs are paid more. Again, you will be eating your words if you ever go back to nursing school. If you do, come back and visit this thread in several years...

i never said that i disrespected nurses. but dont respect me. I am sure that you are good at what you do, however, the nurses that i work with have a Holier that thou attitude. i cant help that just the way the are. BTW, this forum is for everyone. NOT JUST NURSES!

So why is it called "all nurses" then? It's for people who either are nurses or are on the path to become a nurse.

We *do* have the occasional poster that's not a nurse or wants to be a nurse, but they're generally not trying to stir the pot and have been respectful of other posters. Sorry the same can't be said of you. I truly do wonder what you hope to gain by being so disrespectful of nursing as a whole...especially on this site. We're NOT the nurses you work with, ya know.

you can have your snobby forum, i was just positing my opinion! Move on!!!!
