World Canada CA Programs

Hi everyone!

Interested to know who else will be applying for the 2nd entry program at York U for Fall 2014!

Hi iPodSoup! What is your stats if you don't mind me asking? Is your avg also in the B range overall or B+? I'm just wondering where they are in terms of offers. Thanks!

@NikolaStankovic

Thanks for sharing all that info! Can you please talk a little about the placements? More specifically, do you have any choice in where you end up? How many hours per week is it? Did you have any say in what area of the city your placement is in? Anything you can share at all would be much appreciated!

And what is the deadline to accept the offer?

May 13

thanks for the reply ambrr :)

and Dream_Nurse1, my cGPA is a B+ and my last 30 credits is a low A-

hope that helps!

Hey ambrr!

In the first semester, everybody is placed in a long-term facility. Your clinical placement is part of the NURS1900 course, and in the case of the first semester, the first 6 weeks, on whichever day your clinical falls under, you will have labs instead. These labs are only to teach you the basics and are 3hr/week. Once those 6 weeks are over and you get your checklist completed, which is basically a set of skills that you have to have your CCD (instructor) check off, than you are ready to begin your clinical placement. So it's not until about the end of October that you begin with your placements. It's only 6 sessions in total until the end of the semester and it will pass very quickly.

Before you get your CPP stamped, which is the documentation needed in order to be able to attend your placement, you will have a form that you get to specify in which area of the city you would like to work in. So for example, I live in the Don Mills area, so my options were North York as primary and Downtown as secondary. I know students come from all around, so there will be options such as Etobicoke, York, Newmarket, etc. However, don't frown if you do end up with a placement where you have to travel quite a distance too. I know currently in the program, a lot of the people have got what they specified for, but a lot of the students complain as well as they have to travel across the city to get to theirs. Whole point is, they ask you for your preferred location, but you might not be able to get it to your convenience. As for the facilities themselves, you don't get a choice into which one you get placed in, instead it's the NPCO office that does that for you.

I know I mentioned a few more details on the FB page regarding what you actually are required to do in those 6 sessions in your long-term placement along with a few more pointers, so if you want more details feel free to check that out, or I can just copy and paste it.

Cheers

did anyone else get the condition of submit proof of all degree and/or diplomas received. What if you did not graduate?

Hey everyone! I'm an internal applicant for this Fall. I'm hoping we'll start hearing back tomorrow but I know it might still be another week or two...the wait is agonizing! Does anyone know if any HUMA credit should satisfy the humanities pre-req? I mean, that makes sense to me but I never asked and now I'm a little paranoid.

I'm also an internal applicant waiting for an acceptance. It's so frustrating having to wait especially now that all the marks are in and your application is just being reviewed. I was told by the department that they would start sending out acceptances 2-3 weeks of May so just keeping my fingers crossed!

A friend of mine is planning on applying next year with two years of an undergrad degree complete - Does anyone know if York gives preference to those with a finished degree?

No, they do not. However they only hold about 20-30 seats for internal applicants (applicants that are currently studying at York and have not completed a degree from what I remember). There are about 100 or so seats for external applicants because they are coming in from all walks of life and places/universities.

I have asked this same question when I met with the school of nursing program assistant and she ensured me that internal applicants are considered just the same as external just that the application process is a tiny bit different (you just apply to switch programs).

@KarinaMM Thanks for the response. He will be happy to hear that.

I noticed that some people seemed to be focusing on their cumulative GPA more than the last 30 credits, so I thought I'd share something told to me directly from the nursing department at York:

"Both cumulative overall GPA as well the GPA in the last 30 credits are weighted equally. Sometimes admissions will also refer to the grades in prerequisites as well."

Best of luck to everyone!

Yep! I've also been told that they will be looking at both equally (cGPA and GPA in last 30 credits)!
