Which post-secondary that offers A&P 1 can I get into quickly?

World Canada CA Programs

Hello everyone,

This is my first post and please feel free to move it to another topic if I may have accidentally put it in the wrong one.

I am from Vancouver, BC Canada and I'm wondering (to anyone who's a fellow Vancouverite) to which post-secondary institution can I get into taking my A&P 1 course. I'm currently at KPU right now (in their health foundations program) and they have a reputation of being more hard when it comes to their biology but I'm thinking of taking their A&P 1 as a last resort there.

I was also thinking of Langara's A&P 1 since it is transferable over to KPU's, but what's the chance of me actually getting into the course. I'm planning to apply through their Foundations in Health Studies so would that make me priority of getting a seat?

Don't comment anything on Douglas - I spoke to their registrar's office and they treat you like you're completely clueless & utter garbage, when I was just politely asking for more information. Not planning to take it there with that kind of attitude they gave me.

Let me know your thoughts!

Much appreciated 2MzmrmldDUluFszY4BeNRUhFw8YnK8nLzkBNSYABAA==

Is this for an accelerated nursing program or something? I know that most people who want to get into an accelerated BSN in Canada who are missing their A&P re-requisite get it online through Athabasca University. It is transferrble to most accelerated BSNs I looked at. If you sign up today or tomorrow, you can start the course on June 1st. Otherwise, you have to wait until July 1st. The course is a full year course and is designed to take you 8 months but many people do it in less time.

Hi Raven1994,

Oh no, I'm intending on applying for the Nursing program at KPU no matter how long it takes as it's the closer commute for me. It's just I want to widen my options when it comes to taking the last 2 courses (A&P I & II) I need before declaring into their Bachelor of Nursing program (3 years instead of 4). I'm wondering to anyone who has taken A&P at different post-secondary institutions if they were waitlisted getting into A&P I or were they able to get a seat right away?

Sorry for the confusion!

I'm not too sure what Langara's waitlist situation is like, but I did my courses at Douglas and there were a few people from Langara who had come to register in Douglas's courses as they couldn't get in, so maybe someone could confirm that. I did my courses at Douglas where it can be a nightmare to get into the A&P courses...

Hi cmb16,

Thanks for the comment. Yeah I've heard the same thing from others who've taken it there that as long as you're in their Academic Foundations for Potential Nursing/Psych Nursing that you'll get priority as it's first come first serve. I think I'll just apply everywhere and if not, I'll just have to take it at KPU and do the best that I can. But I do hear, Langara & Douglas have better teachers as their curriculum for A&P is slightly easier than KPU's.

Hi there! I'm a Langara student who just finished both A&P courses at VCC. From personal experience, I've taken A&P at both Langara and VCC and I would say that Langara has a large waitlist for new students trying to get into the course. In my opinion, definitely take it at VCC because course registration is a first come first serve basis. As I've also taken A&P at Langara, I found that when comparing the curriculums, it was much easier to achieve a higher grade at VCC (eg. grades are based on more than just labs/exams) While there are handful of good instructors at Langara, there are also a couple of "harder" ones you might want to avoid..

Hi Scylent,

Thanks for the comment. Ohh I see. I have heard this one classmate of mine who was in the Foundations in Health Studies and was still waitlisted for A&P I but now she's taking it at BCIT. Another got in, but she had been taken courses prior to getting in and her GPA was quite high at the time. I have also heard that at VCC, their A&P uses the A&P Colouring Book that accounts for 10% of their grade. Hm..I guess I can cross out Langara then. I think my options are (along with commuting) would be Douglas and/or Kwantlen.

There is a condensed a&p 1&2 course through bcit ! It's great and you will have it done in 4 months i just finished it. I had an amazing prof too I'm not a science person and I did very well because she taught it so well

Hi nico2016,

Thanks for the comment. Yes! I've heard of the BCIT one. I have a classmate that's in it right now but she subscribed to their intake over a year ago and she got in a month ago. I just subscribed a few months ago so I most likely wouldn't get in till next year, but hopefully I'll get in eventually! Thanks for the tip! I really hope to get in to that!

Also, nico2016 - did you apply to BCIT in order to get into their A&P 1200 course or did u just subscribe and they send you an email saying there's a seat available?

I literally googled bhsc 1200 and signed up online. Because it is part time studies you don't need to apply at all. I would watch carefully for them to post for fall 2017 because apparently they fill up quick! Try to get Jennifer Kong as

Your prof she is amazing. One thing I will tell you is it is a bit expensive to do the condensed version , I think I paid 1600 but it was

Well worth it

It was the only class

At bcit I took and everyone was

There to complete their nursing prereq's
