University of San Francisco Fall 2012

U.S.A. California

Published

It's been a few days since the deadline for applications has passed, are there any of us here who have applied at USF for the fall of 2012?

Hi everyone! Congrats to those of you who've gotten in!!

I live in the East Bay as well, but have not received any mail or emails from the school. I will stay positive, but I also do not want to lose this opportunity to ask you all to do a favor for me....

This is my second semester applying to USF as a transfer. Last time, I asked ------ if he could tell me why I was not accepted. He said it was due to the "overall strength of my application in comparison to other applicants."

Here is where the favor comes in =)

I want to gauge where I stand if I decide to reapply, so I was wondering if any of you would be willing to PM me some information, such as GPA, experience, how many letters of recommendations you submitted, and (the biggie) a copy of your personal statement (

I know this is a lot to ask, and it's private information, and I appreciate any response.

(If you can't PM, you can email me at [email protected])

Thanks! And CONGRATULATIONS again!!!!

Ashy,This was also my second year applying to the BSN Nursing for USF- and I miraculously got in lol. My personal essay was the same ( i did not alter it because I felt I actually did my best and it best expresses me and my goals and what I want to do at USF). I stuck with it because I was confident about it even after getting rejected the first time. I have 200hours from volunteering at Stanford Hospital and Clinics. I worked with the nurses and doctors at the general surgery. My rec. letter was my Stanford Supervisor, who is a resource nurse.I got in this year with the same for everything, except a different rec letter from a different person. It was my boss- I work part time as a golf coach for kids. He wrote a slightly more detailed rec letter, but I honestly thought that the prestige of ' Stanford supervisor/nurse' wuld make my rec letter better. I guess not- or I'm not sure.Who knows why I got in this year and didn't last year!!I won't disclose my personal statement though, but will say I wrote about how my experience at the Stanford Hospital parallels to what USF nursing can do for me. The time I spent at SHC has made me a more insightful and compasionate person and by attending USF, I will share my experiences, knwoledge, and compassion. And well so on. Sorry for all the grammatical errors xD in a rush. I wish you thr best! And don't give up :) you have to truly write about what comes from your heart and something you think would reach out and touch a strangers heart. Take cares!Ps. My Pre-reqs GPA is 3.6 and my overall is like 3.45-3.5

@ ashymuhlee I know how you feel, I think that is the hardest thing: not knowing why you were rejected. This was my first time applying but I know that when my sister didn't get into UCLA she was devastated.

GPA: My pre-req GPA is 3.8 and my overall GPA is 3.92.

Volunteer/work: I've been volunteering at the CPMC Emergency Room for over a year, I also volunteer at a women's clinic where I educate young women about domestic violence. I have two jobs: home health aide + nanny.

Letter of rec: I submitted one (I thought we were only allowed to submit one :p). My letter of rec was written by my supervisor, who also happens to be one of my patient's (home care) daughter. I felt that my GPA and transcript would adequately reflect my academic skills so I chose my supervisor over a teacher from school.

Languages: not sure if that had anything to do with it, but I'm fluent in 4 languages, I think I mentioned it somewhere but forgot where :p

Personal Statement: focused on my childhood spent in Holland, some of the hardships and obstacles I had to overcome. I don't want to share the whole essay but my last paragraph kind of sums up my whole essay:

I believe that attending the University of San Francisco, and being surrounded by people who may or may not share similar perspectives and traditions, but share the same feelings and commitments to equality and justice, will help me develop more in to the human being that I strive to become while enabling me to hopefully set an example that inspires future generations. I am confident that the University of San Francisco will serve as not only a stable rock and foundation, but also as a much needed stepping stone to become an architect of change while assisting others and helping them find that moment, person or environment in their lives that could change everything; their 'Milosevic moment'.

Since I never received an acceptance email I pretty much knew I wasn't going to get in, but it was nice to finally receive my denial letter to USF. Some CLOSURE! Haha :p

It was nice getting to know some of you on a more personal level and with that said, I hope you can keep me updated on all your hard work and progress!

For everyone who got accepted, congratulations and I wish you all a successful academic career as a nursing student. For those of you who did not get in, all it means is that we have to work harder and make ourselves more competitive. Don't give up and keep fighting the good fight. Wish everyone the best. :)

Hey guys! I got my acceptance at USF to as a transfer and Im wondering how expensive the cost of living is on SF. I was looking at other schools too because with some private schools I can be done in 18months for less if you have your pre reqs already which I do. They emailed me too saying I wont start nursing coursework until spring 2013 so that makes 3.5 years and I dont really want to waste paying for dorm when I cant even start. How is SF compared to socal?

Congrats on your acceptance!USF campus housing is about 7-11k depending on what housing you get. Since I'm 21, I'm required to stay n campus- I jut booked for loyola village which is about 11k for 2semesters.Yeah... Other schools have a shorter finish time compared to USF. I spent 3 yrs taking many Pre-reqs for nursing and doing my ges.... But USF only let me transfer with less than 40units. That's what bothers me most, but can't complain. I'm going to go because it's the only nursing school ingot into. The job will make up for the tuition in a few years! You'd what you gotta do!Good luck making your decision!!SF I think is a lot more expensive compared to LA. Limited space :(

Sorry about the news, Giant Panda. I also got my letter the other day. Keep your head up! Keep trying =)

Thank you Ileese and Kayla2012 for the info. I really appreciate it. Congrats again!

Cost of living in San Francisco will vary greatly depending on where you are willing to live. A place in the Tenderloin (for the street smart person) will be relatively cheaper compared to other areas. I think Panhandle is the closest neighborhood and studios are $1000+ and 1 bedrooms respectively more. There are also in-law rentals that are a pretty good deal, but usually don't come with a full kitchen or there are share premises. Your best bet is to just go to http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/apa/ and check out the different neighborhoods. If you find a place you like, look up the address and see how far it is from USF. Of course, there are other alternatives to Craig's List, but at least this way you will be able to know which neighborhoods are best for you. If you're willing to take the muni, check out Inner-Richmond and the Sunset districts. Good luck!

Im planning to live on the dorms tho coz i dont work and I dont really want to worry about bills while in school! Im asking about grocery, gas, food when you go out..

Hey guys for those of you who are gona be living on the dorms which dorms did you guys choose?? or which one is the best one to go? I hate dirty dorms esp because were gona be sharing bathrooms and stuff.

Hey TucayMarissa,Yeah. I considered the other alternatives, but since im going t be new to the SF area ( as a resident), I want to be on campus ( safe and close) and not have to worry about catching muni and such. I'll probably consider the alternatives when I've gotten more adjusted in my later years and maybe I'll have some some friends to room with later! The only options for me for dorms were the loyola villages ( 21+) or the PEdro Arrupe ( 1mile from school).. Which is kind of far for walking lol.I'm still waiting for sme ore roommates to choose from. They confirmed my housing app and my 300$ deposit. Also, I didn't know I would be transferring with less than 40units ( less than that is required to live on campus). I guess my 3 yrs spent at JC taking nursing prereqs didn't really carry over for USF LOl. Oh well.So Marissa. If you're over 21 then you'd have to room at one of the two buildings above! The majority are from freshens and underclass men's... Submit your housing soon if you are required to live on campus!!
