MTSAC's lottery number (2010)

U.S.A. California

Published

I just received my lottery number and I am number 926! I applied November 2009.

I just wanted to put the information on here so we can see how far we are along the list. I know that some people will pick other programs, change majors, etc and hoping my number will go down. But 929 is very high and seems that I wont get in for years.

Here are the numbers that I got some someone else.

725

850

Anyone out there?

Hello Everyone,

As of right now they are still accepting 60 students. I think this the break down of how they do the letters:

January Letters-Spring 2011 Accepted Students

May Letters-Fall 2011 Accepted Students.

In between they mail out a letter in August just to let you know your position in the class. It is a bit confusing. These are the letters and times I received them:

Applied in March 2009

First Letter August-2009

Second Letter-January 2010

Third Letter-May 2010

Fourth Letter-August 2010

Fifth Accepted Letter-November-December-2010 (This is what the lady told me from the nursing department)

Accepted Spring 2011

Total wait 1 1/2 yrs. Trust me I remember crying when I got my first letter thinking I was never going to get in and now I will be starting in Spring. :) :yeah:

Thanks for the advice dd. Will definitely save up some money.

Do you think I should get the Pharmacology and the Nursing Process - Text and Study Guide Package and Calculate with Confidence textbook to get a jump start. I know pharmacology is the first class to take so is this a good idea?

Hello There,

Yes, I am ordering my book too. Dont wait. Start reviewing as soon as possible. In that way you dont stress so much. Dont worry about so much but definetly start. It wouldnt hurt you at all. When I start in the Spring, I will let everyone know how the class is and what to study for.

DD

Thank you all for the great information!

DD72 I am number 32 (I believe) so you and I should be in the same class! I wasn't too concerned with the lottery numbers since I started on the list in the 400's about a year and a half ago. The numbers went quickly after applicants had to take the HESI. But with my recent number I didn't know when we would be in. I can't wait until the waiting...waiting...and waiting is finally over!

Hang in there everyone, you number will be here before you know it!

Hello Mommabear3,

I know. I am so excited! Looks like we are going to be in the same class. :) The Nursing Department said that we should be receiving our acceptance letters in November or December. I know we are going to have a 4 day orientation, (I believe) That will probably be in January sometime. Just heads up in case you need a sitter or take time off work. Well look forward to meeting you at orientation. (God Willing).

Hi mamabear! when did you apply? and what score did you get on the hesi? im nervous to take it.

Hi Spillthebeans!

I did okay on the HESI, I got 90%. I had taken the TEAS exam before and that test is very comparable. I had gotten Barron's study guide as well as the Kaplan nursing school entrance exams and found the Barron's most helpful for the HESI. Lots of ratios and conversions for math and no calculators allowed for the exam. Besides the english and math, there was an anatomy/physiology section. I'm sure you will do just fine, but be prepared for the test to take a couple of hours to finish. The exam also had a personality based test to help you identify your study habits, and gave recommendations based on strengths and weaknesses. Kinda cool. You can find out how you did on each section after you finish them, or your total score at the very end. The staff will let you write down your scores and you will have access to them on the computer after a few weeks.

Good luck with your test! :anpom:

If I can help with anything else let me know!

:D Wow such an adrenaline rush reading all your posts-takes me back not too long ago, hmmm about a letter ago, lol :lol2:. I remember waiting, calling, waiting, calling about my position and finally got my acceptance.

When we went through orientation there were students with a position of 128 on the list, not lottery but relative position, they accepted quite a few alternates, i had a few friends who also chose to defer because they felt they weren't prepared yet. Most students underestimate the program. I talked to several of my friends who started this Fall semester and they said there is absolutely no exaggeration on their part, those of you starting soon will be going through orientation around December.

When you get your letter of acceptance there will be another letter behind it with you invite and instructions on the orientation, then you'll have to wait weeks for your orientation packet(nerve racking, we were all pulling our hair at that point) Orientation is a full 4 days and at the end they do an informal luncheon and several of the staff share aimed toward your significant other(husband,mom/dad, whoever). It was really good and an eye opener again for my hubby, i'm glad they do that, there was tears and fear also, the luncheon was very classy, done with good taste.

So the few of you talking about following a guide and getting your pharmacology book, good idea!!!! One of my friends said that once you start they test you weekly or every other week(don't remember) on calculations, and if you don't pass the first time you redmediate and the second time you are out of program. My friends have been passing with 100%, very fortunate to have smart friends.

Just remember as of Spring 2011 they are using a different nursing fundamentals book, a new edition, i personally am still going to get the old one since i have study guide. Master your calculations-ratios/proportions everything!!!

Also during orientation you'll have a pharmacology test to pass, don't stress, if you don't pass you will have to remediate, it's a drag but test not too hard, but i noticed there were quite a few ppl needing to remediate  eesh i was grateful i passed, actually pretty high percentage :D, there is about 10 questions also about Human Anatomy on it just to see where you're at, no biggie.

You can also order a lot of your other stuff that week also, the program we all figured out to be about $834 to start, physical, books, all the other fees you will be told to pay.

They may tweek a few things but it will always be close or near to how they do things.

Reading your posts i am so excited for you guys!!!! I deferred until Fall 2011, i need surgery. I still got a letter this month, i laughed, i am number 7, okay, lol ahhhhh i was told to just disregard, nice to know i am still on list huh??? that would be scary.

Well good luck!!!;)

Hi Jewels,

Thanks so much for all the information you have provided. I really do appreciate it. I am so nervous. I thought I would be starting in the Fall 2011 but when I called the nursing deparment they told me that I would be starting this Spring. Yikes! My head is spinning. I dont know where to start. I wish you all the best with your Surgery! Please keep in touch! :)

DD

Hey DD!! CONGRATS!!!! I'm so excited for you!! :yeah:I know you will be super busy once you start....but keep us informed on how things go for you and any tips you may have!! JEWELSPASSION: What exactly is on that pharm test you took during orientation and what can I do to prepare for it??

Hello There,

Thank you very much! I know I'm so excited. I hope the informaition the nursing department gave me was correct. Could you imagine if they gave me wrong information and instead of starting in the Spring, I start in the Fall? but its OK just as long as I start next year. I will definately post as much information as I can for everyone. I already purchased one book and will be purchasing the Pharm books next. Just FYI- the Pharm book will remain the same but the Fundamentals of Nursing will upgrade to 9th Edition. I'm trying to get a heads up on everything and review my A&P too. I keep hearing to brush up on math and know your calculations. So that is exactly what I am doing. What number are you? Just remember the time will pass quickly. Look we are already in October then Christmas, then Spring again. Yikes!
