Hi,

I just wanted some feedback of anyone working/worked at Balboa? Any GS nurse? Any info at all will help. Thanks!

My brother was stationed there for a few years. He is active duty Navy. I was able to visit his office back in '07 or '08, I know it was winter, it has been a while (I'm not quite sure). He mentioned the place to me years back and I was able to see it myself. The facility looked good inside and out. He said that there was a good mix of civilian and military personnel working there. At that time, it wasn't hard to get a job inside - especially if you knew someone. I don't know how it is now. Since my brother is stationed at another place now.

I know though, that the pay and benefits were outstanding back then (for GS jobs). San diego is a fun place to be, that's for sure. I remember that there was a park nearby, and dudes wearing signature shirts/shoes. Well, of course, Balboa is in Hillcrest! :clown: It's a little posh area of San diego.

Oh, apply anyway... ya might get lucky!

Are you a New Grad or an experienced nurse? I know they don't have any jobs at the moment for new grads but I still submitted my resume in case something opened up.

I interviewed and got a job offer. I am in the process of getting through all of the pre-employment paperwork. Just wanted some opinions on what its like. I am excited, I am ready for something new.

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

Congrats that's awesome! I don't know anything about it myself. But I think it would be fantastic to work in a military environment. There's such a level of respect among everyone, and I imagine the benefits are great! I had thought about applying for it down the road, but I'm still working in critical care up in the inland empire and still have a year left of my BSN up here. I figured after I finish school than it would be a good time to look around.

Let us know how it goes!

^^ Ok a little unrelated but if anyone reads this this and you get a job there please don't become a mean/burnt out nurse!! :) I had both my kids there 10 years ago and I had a bad experience with the nurses there.

what is the pay rate at this medical center and in general san diego for a nurse with 3-4 years experience

Congrats!! I am also going through the pre-employment paperwork! I've nver worked there, but from what I hear and from what I've seen... it's a great place to work. The benefits, the people, the respect... I am so so excited to start. And whenever I tell people where i'll be working, all i hear about is how they've been on the waiting list, or they've been trying so long to get a position there... so i'm assuming the experience we'll be getting there will be top notch! When do you start and what department are you going to be in? Congrats again!! :yeah:

I am going to be on 5N. Working nights. I finished credentialing and am supposed to get a call with start date beginnning of next week. What about you? I am very excited too!

Yay!! I'm turning in all my paperwork today... still have to go through physical and all that other fun stuff, so I probably won't be starting for a while...end of May or so... They said about 3 weeks to do the background check and get everything settled in. I'll be in the ER! I cannot wait to start! :D Keep me updated and let me know how everything goes for you!

oops... didn't realize i'm logged in under a different screen name on this computer...

good luck again!
