Any Kaiser nurses?

I too also heard this. They prefer you to have a year or so of med surg if you are a new grad as well!!

Yes, Kaiser does take new grads twice a year. I went to their new grad open house in November but they only take them on their med/surg floors. Their November open house for the new grad start at the end of January for their Lakeview hospital.

I did clinicals at Kaiser-Anaheim...they said that since all positions are first opened up to current employees, usually only med-surg and maybe some post-partum positions are open to new grads.

Thank you Ken, I was only referring to Orange County Kaiser, not the entire system of Kaiser. I only can comment on what I learned from the Orange County New Grad Dinner that they had. Maybe Kirsnikity will move to your area? I doubt it but thanks for your info.

Hopefully the new Sand Cyn facility is new and much improved. Lakeview is the scariest place I have ever been. The facility is very run down, the equipment is usually broken, the nursing stations are grid lock, the charts are usually missing from the floor. Many dangerous things observed, no sterile technique, bad patient id, wrong meds delivered to the "server" and the food department looks like they are diffusing a bomb everytime trays are delivered.

It seemed everytime I was there they had a "code pink" which closed down elevators and stairwells. Parking was bad and it was frustrating dealing with the "Dougie Howser" docs that rotated thru the units. If Kaiser has tightened up the HIPPA laws, streamlined the charting and med delivery, maybe provided private rooms and computer charting like Hoag does, it will be a nicer place to work. I remember getting postcards from them with invittaions to open houses, new grads welcome. Go for it but make sure they provide you with full orientation and a preceptor that you get along with. If something goes wrong and you end your employment there, they are quite vicious about putting you on a regional "black list". Good luck

yeah I am eyeing that sand canyon facility. Cant wait til it opens so I can see if its worthy. I live right by it so it would be perfect. Its funny with Kaiser you either hear really great things or really bad things.

I just did a rotation with Kaiser Orange County and my preceptor told me that it was orignally supposed to open Fall 2007, buy now delayed until 2008.
