American River College Fall 2013 Applicant Pool

U.S.A. California

Published

I haven't been to any of the Multicriteria meetings on the new application process for American River College but I have a question:

If ARC is selecting students from the top 30% of applicants and automatically giving top 30% spots to those who have applied 5 or more times, does this mean that the top 30% will be made primarily of those who have applied 5 or more times?

Does it mean that you need an even higher score to be put in the top 30%/one is less likely to get a spot in the top 30% based on the multicriteria score? Or is it the top 30% of the multicriteria scores AND 5+ time applicants are included in the selection pool?

I hope some of this makes at least a little sense :)

Is anyone going to the SCC info meeting on the 29th? I wish we could call in haha... I'm not gonna go but I'm very curious about what the deal is for the Extended Campus program...[/quote']

I wish! Yeah I can't miss work for that...it would be so nice to know!! That is the same day registration begins and I think we might know who got in by then... Lol I think about this and speculate things wayyyy too much!

Are you kidding me? It feels like my whole life is on hold because I can't make a move until I know what the h is going to happen! So, while my life is a big, fat question mark, I sit here and play the "what if" game... all. day. long.

Torture is putting it lightly.

To be honest, this whole application process has been so stressful over the last few semesters, I have developed mild anxiety :( I manage it though exercise, eating right, and positive thinking, but it always gets worse around application times.

Eh, the extended program isn't offered very often. If it was offered during this application period we would have received an e-mail already asking us if we would like to be placed in that application pool or if we want to be placed in the main campus pool. I think its been almost a year since they last offered it?

When I went to the info meeting in feb, they said the sutter program would be offered. When the apps came out, and there wasn't one for the sutter program, I email SCC and the response I got was IF they were to have an ext campus cohort, they will select that class from the traditional campus application pool. Hopefully they will have it!

Our stories pretty much mirror each other. This is the 7th time in a row applying to ARC, stop qualifying for SCC when they did the point system application switch - my freaking goodness, at this point I apply and don't even expect to get anything but a rejection letter so I don't even pay attention to any of it anymore. So sad, good luck!

My life has literally been put on hold for 3 1/2 years now, plus the prerequisite years. It's been beyond nerve wracking, applying to nursing school in NorCal definitely is not for the faint of heart. Wish you luck in this years pool!!!!

Oh my 3 1/2 years??? How do you cope? What do you do to keep sane? I'm struggling with only being at it for my second application process! It's so hard when I see my friends moving forward with their life and I want to do the same!

I agree this selection process is very frustrating. Good things come to those who wait. If you want it badly enough, you'll get it. Hang in there everyone and best of luck! See you in class...

You are so very right soyboy. I do want it, and I'm willing to wait. I just fear if I wait too long, I will forget all my a+p/micro stuff!

Tell me about it! Not to scare you, but I have forgotten some of my A&P and Micro stuff already. If I were tested on any of my sciences, I don't think I'd be able to answer a lot of questions, lol. It's been a little over 2 years since I took A&P. I did review it when I took my TEAS, but even that was about a year or so ago. I'm afraid I would have to review some of it before I start any type of nursing program lol

Oh I know I have forgotten stuff already too!! I wish there was a refresher class that was offered that gave an overview of the important stuff for nursing. Would be nice!
