American River College Fall 2013 Applicant Pool

U.S.A. California

Published

I haven't been to any of the Multicriteria meetings on the new application process for American River College but I have a question:

If ARC is selecting students from the top 30% of applicants and automatically giving top 30% spots to those who have applied 5 or more times, does this mean that the top 30% will be made primarily of those who have applied 5 or more times?

Does it mean that you need an even higher score to be put in the top 30%/one is less likely to get a spot in the top 30% based on the multicriteria score? Or is it the top 30% of the multicriteria scores AND 5+ time applicants are included in the selection pool?

I hope some of this makes at least a little sense :)

Yes, It usually takes 4-5 weeks for my rejection letter. :-D. I forgot when the deadline was. Was it April 3rd?

The fifth :)

April 5th was the deadline so we are almost at the end of week three...it's prob safe to say then if we don't hear something by the end of next week then chances are, we didn't get selected.

How many people do you know that got selected before the rejection letters were sent out?

Two. One is a really close friend of mine who is actually finishing her last semester now. She said she asked why she was notified early and They said they do it the week before so they can have time to notify additional people in case people decline. That way, everything is said and done when the rejection letters go out.

I mean, who knows, they could do things different now, but it makes sense that some people might decline for whatever reason and then they have to notify others that they have been selected.

Hi all,

I just thought I would add my first post and chime in. I have been reading postings on here for a year or more and it has been so helpful, last go around I new i didnt get selected before my rejection email came because everyone was already talking about their acceptence letters from ARC a week prior.

This is my 2nd time for ARC and first for City and Sierra, I just want to say that none of you are alone in this waiting game and those of you that have done this several times I wish you the best of luck.

I am all set to go to Uniteck if I am not selected, yes Uniteck. I just cant image waiting so long, I figured I could be and RN by then if I work myself up the LVN route.

Well, I guess I will just keep checking in with all of you and I will post as soon as I know ANYTHING.

Best wishes

Thanks for sharing! And I guess it is nice to know that no one is talking about it yet! :)

Although I am currently in nursing school now, I am not attending American River College. American River College was one of the programs that I applied to many times. I suppose you could say that I applied so many times that I got used to the rejections, and could generally figure out when the rejection email/letter would arrive. Typically, to my recollection, that arrived approximately 5 weeks after the deadline to submit the application. That would mean that the acceptance letters would go out approximately 4 weeks after the end of the application filing period closed.

Since the application filing period closed April 5, that would mean that it's been three weeks so far, the acceptance letters should be going out within the next week, and the rejection letters should probably be sent out the following week.

Do keep an eye on your email inbox because either one of those emails could very easily seem like a relatively unimportant items that was sent to you.

The timing of the acceptance/rejection emails is based upon my experience, which is from before the new multi-criteria system was put in place.

I wish you all the best of luck and I hope that if you are selected, you do well and if you're rejected, that you reapply.

Oh my 3 1/2 years??? How do you cope? What do you do to keep sane? I'm struggling with only being at it for my second application process! It's so hard when I see my friends moving forward with their life and I want to do the same!

I move forward with my life too. The majority of people that I know that have been accepted, and I work in a hospital - so it's been a lot, have applied 5, 6, 7, and 8 times. I know its frustrating, but life still goes on. If it's your passion to be a nurse, you will do whatever it takes to become on. Looking back in retrospect I would have completed my BS in another subject and then enrolled in a bridge program, because it just seems like the easier route to go. After this application period if I do not get in, I will transfer to Sac State and start my journey into Public Health Administration - I will still pursue my RN, but having the admin knowledge will only help me succeed in my future nursing career. Thinking in terms of future supervisory/management/nursing administration rolls that I may want to hold in the long term.

Like I said, the wait can be frustrating, I'm used to getting rejection letters now, I literally don't frantically think about when I will get an email or not anymore - that's how monotonous it has become for me. The process is hard, but so is the program, and even after the program being a nurse is a lot of work. There are still a ton every semester that get into the program and end up dropping out. Just keep pushing, build your life around your goals, and know that at some point you will get in but there is no reason to completely put your life on hold now. If you aren't working in the health care field already, i suggest starting there - it's a great environment and shows you exactly what you will be up against once you are complete with the program.

Also by the way, if you think getting in is rough, just imagine what it's like getting out and competing for jobs as a new grad - I work in the Employee Health department so we see the new hires for the hospital, and let me tell you, there are people who wait 2 and 3 years to get a on call/per diem job with no benefits. Baby boomers aren't really retiring yet, it's just another battle all together when you get out.

I don't mean this negatively in anyway, I just mean, expect the wait, and if you are only of the few who are lucky enough to not have to wait, kudos. But if you end up being like me, and having to wait, the passion still exists, and it makes you stronger - good luck to all of you!

Thank you so much for this. You are absolutely right. Life goes on. I have a really good job right now in sales and although it is not my passion it works until nursing comes calling. All in all with the nursing job market the way it is, a longer wait isn't necessarily a bad thing....

Haha my boyfriend promised me a consolation puppy if I don't get in this time :)
