:typinghi fellow students (prospects) of el camino nursing program...i just thought i should start a new thread here so we could all share our teas test result and our acceptance or denial letter...good luck to you all...i hope you all get in

yeah you should study this weekend (no more procastination :)), and yeah you should get that book it will help. But i think this class is going to be alot easier than 150( that class was hell on earth) because i kind of prefer patho (it's either you know it or you don't) than critical thinkin' questions (even if you studied, its not guaranteed that you'll pass)... But lets see how the first exam go before we make any conclusion...i'm more worried about the clinical

Hi guys,

so I was your first week of school?

Mine ends tomorrow and I can tell you that it was brutal. Third semester is super hard!!!!!!!!!!! :uhoh3:

I personally thought that 150 was way easier compared to 153; the tests in 153 are nothing like 150, they're all critical thinking and applications questions where more than one option is correct and you have to pick the best one.

Our tests in third semester are going to be even harder because we'll also have the "all that apply" questions and I hate those!!!

Anyways, I hope you guys are doing well and not stressing out too much already :D

Hi

First week was okay. There has been a killer amount of reading and it's all a little dry, you remember hand washing and bed making. The class in nice, but sort of stressful. The teachers keep telling us to "read, read, read, study, study, study" and students seem a little shell shocked from the whole experience. I hope the atmosphere settles down and we can start having some fun! It seems like people from other programs "love" their program. Do students "love" ECC? I personally think my incoming class is still reeling from rumors of last semester.

Hi,

it's normal to feel a little nervous!!!! But don't worry, as long as you study and give it your best, you will be fine. And even if it's a lot of work it can also be fun!

Second semester was definitely more challenging than first especially N153 (med-surg) but we only lost one person to that class so it wasn't that bad. I heard third semester is the hardest one and that a lot of people fail, so I'm kinda of worried....

As far as clinicals go, first semester I was done at 2pm and second at 3pm so yes the schedule they give you is pretty accurate.

To work as a CNA you have to take a class and then pass the national exam to get your license, I haven't done that. I thought about looking for a job as a nurse student (which you can apply for once you finish your second semester) but since third semester is going to be very challenging I don't think I will.

Enjoy your last weeks off, when school starts you won't have much free time. Another suggestion I can give you is to get very organized. Buy a weekly/monthly planner and also one of those big calendars you can hang on the wall and write down all your assignments, papers due, quizzes, and exam dates so you can see what's coming up and plan your study time.

Try to enjoy your time in nursing school, it's a great experience and time goes by super fast, I can't believe I'm half way done already. Daniela

I did the LVN to ADN program at El Camino. I truly liked the program. I did not finish because I had the worst bad luck. I was to start in 3 days time, but I fell and broke wrist. Had to wait another semester...but they allowed me to sit in on the lectures for the last semester (which I have notes from the program). Because time had passed while I was sitting still, they suggested I take the intermediate med/surg but after I did, I had to stop due to hip problems. All the while I was driving to El Camino from the San Fernando Valley. I had enough and took some time off.

However, I while the program is rigorous, it is a fair program. Nursing school will demand your time, but the teachers are devoted to helping students get through. In summer, the school puts on a crash course for those who are having difficulty. In that class, they go over fundamentals, how to determine ABGs, electrolytes, and how to write up their very specific care plans.

All in all, I had good feelings about the program. It is true that they offer extra credit to give as many people thorugh each class. The last semester, they brought in each week a tutor who would go over the week's lecture, restate it, and answer any and all questoins.

If you decide to go to El Camino, make sure you run for class office. If you are a class officier, which will take time away from your studies, you do not have to rely on the lottery to pick your clinical spot...you pick it yourself ahead of everyone else.

I do have my lecture notes for intermediate med surg and the last semester (68/69??) if anyone is interested. :clown:

hi karmarene,

you said that you started this spring in nurs149 so i know you were already an LVN..Im also an lvn and applied to el camino college, i wanted to know if it was really tough getting accepted there as an lvn. Did you have a really high gpa or did u have to wait? sorry im anxious on whether or not i got in..

lupelvn,

i did have a good gpa. i has straight a's in the sciences and a b in english, so i was pretty competitive. i actually only had to wait one semester to get in. i applied last summer and i was going to start as an alternate in the fall of '09, but the other person ended up staying in the class. i waited til the spring and attended all of the orientation meetings and what not, however, i ended up getting accepted into a program closer to home, so i went there instead. good luck to you!! once you get in, its tough, but study hard and you will do fine. remember, you get out what you put in!!!
