OK thanks! i applied to el camino in Compton, i think you applied to torrance correct? i never find anything on that campus, im guessing because its in compton.

Hi guys,

so I was your first week of school?

Mine ends tomorrow and I can tell you that it was brutal. Third semester is super hard!!!!!!!!!!! :uhoh3:

I personally thought that 150 was way easier compared to 153; the tests in 153 are nothing like 150, they're all critical thinking and applications questions where more than one option is correct and you have to pick the best one.

Our tests in third semester are going to be even harder because we'll also have the "all that apply" questions and I hate those!!!

Anyways, I hope you guys are doing well and not stressing out too much already :D

Hi Daniela,

How has third semester been? Do you love OB and Peds? Has it all come together for you?

Thanks

HI there,

third semester is hard!!!! I had Med-Surg 253 the first 8 weeks and I can tell you it was by far the hardest class I have ever taken. Out of 30 people, only 13 of us passed :crying2: it'

Now I'm in OB/Peds and it is hard too....it's actually two different classes (OB and Peds) in one, so you have a lot to do and tons of paperwork. You also have to do all your paperwork during clinicals including the care plans so that's pretty stressful because you're not only providing total care, passing meds, charting but you're also doing care plans :uhoh3:. I'm not a big fan of Peds, I get too emotional when dealing with sick kids, OB it's ok but it's really not my thing.....I just have to get through this rotation hopefully.....

How about you? How's second semester going for you?

Oh wow, only 13! What was your grade? Was the teacher tough? Is that normal?

My semester is going okay, it's a lot of new information but so far so good.

yes unfortunately that's normal! Third semester is the make it or break it semester of the nursing program.....I think they should weed out people earlier because it's not fair to let people get that far and then fail them but that's the way it is and has been for a while now.

Yes the instructor is hard and her tests are something completely different from any other test you've ever taken....you can study very hard and still fail her tests. She also has select all the apply questions....

I got a B. out of the 13 who passed, 4 of us got B's and the rest got C's.......no A's.....

good I'm glad you're doing well!!! Are you in Psych or Med-Surg?

I'm hoping someone from this thread (or a current student) can shed some light on my situation. I recieved an e-mail from El Camino inviting me for the TEAS. At that point I already took and passed the TEAS but I did'nt spend the money to send it over. I also did'nt send it over because I was still under the impression that even if I did pass the TEAS, there was going to be somes ort of selection process (and my TEAS scores were not that high although I passed) This was because at the time I was taking Nurs145 and I was told that those who have already applied will have to wait until FALL 2011 to get accepted. Now I'm hearing that all who were invited to take the TEAS were accepted.

The e-mail they sent said nothing in reference to if a student had already passed they would have been accepted. So here I am now, in the "dark" and the whole time I could have been accepted into the program. What should I do. Should i even try to put up a fight?? Someone give me some advice, or perhaps a way to go about getting in this FALL, pleaseeeeeeeeee.... Thanks

Well, thats quite a sticky situation. What I can tell you is that I was accepted into the program BEFORE I was invited to sit for the TEAS. I was under the impression that you werent allowed to take the TEAS until you were accepted into the program. I have applied at several schools and all of them that I applied at asked you take the TEAS AFTER they sent you a letter stating that you were accepted and you agreed. I would go to the admissions office and plead my case. Idk how you fell through the cracks, but I wouldnt let it ride for too long....

So you think I should go to admissions or I should go to see a counselor perhaps? Although I'm sure they have a record of my invite to take the TEAS, i can't find a copy of the e-mail they sent to me. I recall quite well that no where on that e-mail it said I was accepted. I'm absolutely suer of this. So youthink admissions huh?

I would only talk to a counselor, if it was a NURSING counselor. Otherwise, they are probably goin to refer you back to them and it will be a waste of time. I would just go directly to maybe the secretary in the admissions for nursing to see what could be done. Really no sense in talking to anyone else, since they are the root of the source. Good luck to you!!

Karmarene: thank you so much for your info. One favor to ask. I know it has probably been a while but would you by chance have a copy of the letter they sent you for the invite to the TEAS? I've made an appointment for Mon morning with a person in the RN dept. (can't mention names on this site) and I would liek to have a general copy of this letter. I can't find it... I'm 100% it did not say anything about being accepted. Did your explicitly say : You've been formally accepted in the RN program at El Camino College" If you don't have it I understand or if you do and rather not provide it, I also understand. Your info is enough. Thanks again

Unfortunately the letter of acceptance I was sent was via the mail. I dont have that letter anymore since I didnt end up going to El Camino. The only email I have left is that the test was mandatory requirement for entrance. But that was after I got notified of being accepted via telephone. Also, the day that I went to take the test, I was given a letter of acceptance to sign right then. I didnt get the copy to accept at home untill after I had tested, but they had already called me.

I guess a lot has changed in their notification of acceptance process. Thats OK. I'm going to plead my case on Monday. I will let you the results. Cross you fingers
