I don't have much to offer but I am a senior 2 (Graduating in three weeks, yay!) and a girl in my learning community did her preceptorship at Maricopa Medical Center and on the burn floor. Yes, floor. Not just a unit.
She specifically requested the burn unit at Maricopa, so there's something to look forward to when you are putting in your wish list next summer!
I will forward this post to her and see if she has anything she wants to tell you.

Yes, they do have a Nurse Residency program.
I don't know what they keep the A/C set at in the burn unit, but I have been a volunteer at Maricopa for a while and I have never noticed a temperature difference between the burn unit and the rest of the hospital. It certainly wasn't uncomfortable anyway. I don't know what the patient rooms were kept at but the general floor was not significantly warmer.

Hello everybody! I am new to allnurses.com. I am in nursing school at ASU, and I will be in my Senior 1 semester in January.
I am really interested in working the burn unit at Maricopa Medical Center. Does anybody have any advice for me? What is the work environment like? I heard from my clinical instructor that the nurses there do all their own lab draws. She also told me that since it's a teaching hospital, the nurses have a little more freedom to tell the residents if they disagree with what they are doing.
Does Maricopa Medical Center offer nurse externships? I am going to try and do my preceptorship there my last semester. Any tips, ideas, and help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
