Hey all I am thinking about taking bio 201 online at Rio Salado this summer and I was wondering if anyone taken it or currently taking it could tell me how hard it is and what they thought of the class??? I am retaking this class cause I didnt study the first time and didn't dedicate enough study time to it as needed and took too many other classes with it..but I am rededicated to becoming a nurse and now I plan to study ALOT(and only take this class) and get an A!! So please let me know any imput you can!! Also anyone have the book that needs to sell it?? Thanks!

I just found out that I need Bio 201 as a pre-req before I can apply to the Nursing program. I am thinking about taking it at Rio starting end of October and have read the mixed opinions about taking Bio classes online. My question is for those of you who liked your instructors, what are their names and is there any way we can choose the instructor we want when we register?

A gentle reminder:

Please refrain from posting anyone's name here on the BB, it is a TOS violation.

You may exchange that information in emails or PMs.

Carry on! :)

There are other websites that detail rating professors (per TOS, I'll refrain from listing them), just google "rate professors" and a couple should show up; these websites can give you an indicator as to the effectiveness of the teacher...instructors are listed with their respective classes in the schedule.

Thanks! Actually for those who use Facebook, you can add an application on there that lists the ratings of professors as well.

At Rio its not really about the instructor other than how they like your essay questions. Its all about self teaching and if you are able to learn using the materials they provide without a lot of feedback and lecture from an instructor. Lots of reading and a lot of memorization of EVERYTHING. Its all fair game for the midterm and final. ( Like Nursing School... I hear) :nuke:

I had already taken BIO 101and BIO 202 or A& P I and II in person and found that they were more fun and reasonable. I already have my masters and decided to retake my AP II because I did get a C because I never studied. I needed to get a better grade because I wanted to increase my chances of getting into nursing school.

Well, Rio sucks!! The professor was not pro student and it was the worst experience ever! Trust me, I actually prefer online due to my schedule and I am very self disciplined. The school works ass backwards! You can send in an official transcript, but every time you want to register for a course then you have to fax them your prerequisite course. It's a pain and they charge you. Also, watch for drop dates! They set the drop deadline a few days after class starts so check it out, then if you think you can hang stay in, otherwise drop it ASAP. They will charge you for the entire course and no refunds.

I have been to several colleges and this is the worst! A BUSINESS that is NOT pro student and out to get your money!!!!!!

Yes, unreasonable. They take advantage of the ONLINE delivery and in person this would never be as demanding. RIO Sucks!!! I recommend in AZ Pima or AZ western college

I agree with you. I got an A in BIO 156, but they overwork you. You spend a lot of time and really don't learn that much per hour spent. The material is not rocket science, but they set it up as if it was a journalism class not a science class. Lighten up on the writing. Plus the multiple choice questions are written by people that a) don't understand Biology, and b) have poor English skills. Rio Salado is great for languages (can you believe it!) and computer classes, but any of the sciences I am going to in person. There is nothing online, it is the way Rio Salado does their sciences online. They need to get some real pros in there.
