Hey all I am thinking about taking bio 201 online at Rio Salado this summer and I was wondering if anyone taken it or currently taking it could tell me how hard it is and what they thought of the class??? I am retaking this class cause I didnt study the first time and didn't dedicate enough study time to it as needed and took too many other classes with it..but I am rededicated to becoming a nurse and now I plan to study ALOT(and only take this class) and get an A!! So please let me know any imput you can!! Also anyone have the book that needs to sell it?? Thanks!

I took BIO 205 at Rio, loved it! I left with a B, 89%, wish it was an A. But I left with a good understanding about the class, thought it was pretty self explanatory. I found the labs were easier, especially since you don't have to deal with live microorganisms.

Hope this helps.

What a bummer! The live organisms part is the best part. Otherwise, I'd find micro rather boring...

I took BIO 205 at Rio, it was great and I actually learned a lot!

Read the assignments given, and the quizes are a great study tool for the midterm and final! Good luck!

I took BIO 156, 201,202 and 205 with RIO and I have no complaints! I loved the freedom that online classes offered. I am a pretty good student and spent about 5-10 hours total per week (double that for mid and finals) and got B's in all. If you are self motivated with a good memory you should do fine. Good Luck!

I've taken BIO156 and am currently taking BIO201 at Rio. My instructor for BIO156 was amazing, probably the best I've ever had. The instructor for BIO201 is more a disappointment, I don't get as much feedback, unless I turn in a great assignment. I sent a question regarding the midterm about 3 weeks ago and still haven't gotten an answer.

Besides that, it's not easy. Any online class requires a lot of work. Between essays, quizes, and labs you'll probably spend about 10-15 hours/week on the class. I'm combining BIO201 with CHM130 (+ lab) and PSY101, all at Rio. I have high B's (89%) in both BIO and CHM and I actually hope to make it to an A before the end of the classes (in February).

Good luck!

I'm taking BIO156 at Rio right now and while my instructor seems great, between all the books, links, lab kit, etc.

It's an aweful lot. I worry more about just covering all the bases than I do about learning anything.

I think after I finish CHM130 and BIO156 this semester I'll take the rest at CGCC. I'd take a math class or other non-lab class any day at Rio, but the lab and science classes have a lot of extra overhead involved :(

I tried taking Bio at rio salado and it didnt work out for me. I think alot of it had to with having a hard time keeping up with so much online work. Some people really do great with online stuff.. me just not so much

That Bio 156 at Rio was a nightmare!! I hated it- soooooo much work and I agree with you. I felt like I was barely keeping my head above water all the time between the book reading, essays, links, labs etc. Ridiculous. I learned quite a bit but it was about 20 hrs a week. I did get an A but man..... I don't care for online.

I know! It is awful. I took Bio 156 and I don't think I have ever had to do so much work for a class in my life- and I have a bachelors degree from Univ. of Illinois!

I took Bio 156 and dropped it. I had the worst instructor ever!! I ended up taking it thru GCC and aced it. Now I am taking a chance and going thru Rio for 201. My instructor is listed and I hope she's good. If anyone wants to drop me a note and see if it is someone they've had, I would love to hear from you. After my last encounter with a Rio instructor, I am nervous.:bluecry1:

I am currently taking all my pre-reqs at Rio, and currently taking BIO 201...I honestly believe that it is quite easier for me to take the classes online. **Just do not take any accelerated Science courses, those are insane** But everyone has their own way of learning, so it is definitely not for everyone...
