Just found out Tuesday I am starting Nursing School in January at GCC. I have been going there for 3 years getting my pre req's out of the way and finally starting Nursing School. How do we find out our class schedule?

Never too early to find study groups

Hello GUYS!

I wanted to type in morse code like Keli, but oh well.:chuckle

Italian...saw Angie at school for like a nano second...passed by her. (Remember, Angie????:chuckle ) Didn't recognize her till I was long past her. So....know she is on campus!!! My classes are OK. Nothing compares to Laurie however, and we all miss her.:crying2: Guess you can only have it easy one sememster, lol. My teachers are OK, but too early to tell. Not nearly as "fun" as Laurie, but decent. I am trying to work some issues regarding my fathers illness and regrettably may have to drop for this semester. It may be inevitable. I am going to talk to the Nursing Chair this week...

Keli...r u burried under books?? LOL:uhoh3:

I'll ghimve thgis aothgeur tury, forget it.

Thrashejf,

I LOVE Laurie I can see why you raved about her. I'll type more later, I have to go through and delete all extra letters, takes too long

Keli

do i remember Angie LOL :rotfl: I talk to her every day! I see a lot of her ... in fact i think im going to start going to the gym with her to get rid of all this extra FAT grrrrrr

are you excited for your classes Janice? I bet you'll be glad to get the first year over with!

Hi ladies. Well I have a new keyboard so this should be easier to understand :rotfl:

My first week of NS is over and it was pretty exciting!! There IS a lot of reading but it seems like my instructor really wants us to be successful and is very helpful in telling us what we need to know (I'll see if that's really true after the first test, lol) There are about five of us (that I know of so far) that live within a couple of miles of me so we're talking about carpooling as soon as we get our schedules worked out etc. The classwork seems to be really similar to CNA school, YKWIM? Instead of learning about illnesses and how the body works we're back to 'nursing' and assessment of the patient, those kinds of things, so it's a whole new way of learning again. A lot of the things we covered this first week were a repeat of things already learned, so at least it's not jumping in feet first, there's time for adjustment. I'm just hoping I can pick out of the books what I need to know to do well on the tests and to become a good RN.

Thrashej,

Yes, I'm up to my eyeballs in books, but I'm trying to not overwhelm myself by it. I'm dedicating study time, a couple of times a day and so far just plugging along.

Something really interesting happened to me on the way home from school yesterday. There was a car accident that I witnessed right behind me. I pulled over to check on the people and to give my name. The women who were hit were okay, but the guy who hit them was covered in blood!! He had blood covering both arms, past his elbows, dripped onto his feet (one shoe was off, the other was a sandle) and splatters on his face. I went up to him and asked him where he was hurt and he said he wasn't hurt. I said did you cut yourself somewhere, 'cause he had blood everywhere and he said 'no, it's not blood it's paint'. WEll I didn't fall off the horse and buggy yesterday, I know blood when I see it but he started to walk away so I yelled after him 'is there anyone else in your car' thinking he had a child in his car who was injured or something and he said 'no, I'm alone'. He got in his car and just sat there. A couple of minutes later a fire truck came racing by with its sirens and went into the apartment complex behind us. Then a few minutes later a cop car pulled up and blocked the guy off. The cop went over and talked to the guy and then handcuffed him. Now I'm sitting here thinking, well this guy WAS at fault for the accident but I've never seen them handcuff anyone before for causing an accident (the guy did not appear drunk or anything). One of the other witnesses started listening to the cop and the guy and it turns out that this guy had just beat the s*it out of his girlfriend (hence all the blood) and was running from it. I'm not sure if he had killed her or what, but there was enough blood it was possible (but I think there would've been more police there if that was the case). Really freaky. I can't believe someone could do something like that to someone they 'love'.

Well that's my excitement for the week :rotfl: hopefully it won't get more exciting than that.

Keli

wow :uhoh3:

thats crazy calzonan...

holy cow  what was i thinking???:banghead: a whole lotta work and not sure where to start  yea sleep.... sounds good ....what is it?!?!?!?

that about sums up the first week of school ...... :rotfl:

How do the rest of you feel!!??

LOL! :rotfl: It's the same at MCC! I think this board is going to be pretty quiet for the next 6 weeks! I had 6 chapters due wednesday and 7 due thursday...Monday's class isn't as bad, about 3 chapters...It looks like it is going to be this way until assessmet and pharm are over......:)

I was wondering what happened to everyone and where you guys went. I'm into my second week, and it doesn't seem too bad....yet. I've just been plugging along with the reading, doing some here and there so I think I've managed to keep up, we'll see after the first test :rotfl: . I have my full day tomorrow, pharm and assess, but I'm riding to school with two other girls in my class. It'll be nice having someone to chat with on that long ride. I hope everyone else is surviving, we haven't heard from a couple of the other spring starters in a while.

i wrote a list of all the chapters that needed to be done by this weeks class and all the chapters for next weeks classes. Then all the assignments they have handed out all im just going right down the list and checking them off. I have about 6 of the 35 chapters done :rotfl:

Does the part time have that many? You probably do... because its not part time its weekend.

Well talk to ya'll later we should all get together again soon for some stress relief!

ItalianRN- Yeah, I think we have that many chapters to read, but so far not really any 'homework' just some math practice. What a great idea writing out what chapters you need to read and checking them off, I was just going to cross them out on my syllabus, but I think it would be easier to figure out just by making a list. I'll do that tonight and then see how much I REALLY have to do :rotfl:

Well I'm off to school, we get to practice sterile glove techniques...does the fun ever end???:rotfl:

Keli

A little poem to help everyone out!

I got it from a nurse at work, she got it from her sister when she went through school.

Hope everyone is hanging in there!

First test anxiety is over!! (for some of us)

Now I lay me down to study

I pray the lord I won't go nutty

Or if I fail to learn this junk

I pray the lord I will not flunk

If I do, I won't shed a tear

Just put a rose behind my ear

Tell my instructor I've done my best,

then pile my books upon my chest

If I die before I wake

THAT'S ONE LESS TEST I HAVE TO TAKE!:chuckle

I thought it was cute, it's a little corny but, humerous.

Take care

Kelly
