New job offer

So, I was offered a job this week. Everything looks ok, it is a one page offer. However, they will give me a base pay for two years then my pay is based on RVUs. If I go above the set RVUs, I split the bonus with my "supervising dr" evenly. Does this sound right to you?

If you don't mind me asking what's your base salary and setting?

It is an ob/gyn specialty clinic with some primary care mixed in. The base for the first 2 years is 95,000. Starting in the third year, I will be paid $28 per RVU up to the 95,000 then everything over that will be split equally with the "supervising" doctor.

Specializes in Med-Surg, LTC, Psych, Addictions..

If you're a new grad that sounds very reasonable. Do they cover malpractice? If there's no call, i'd take it!

That's awesome! Congrats! I think anything less then 90k for a starting NP is ridiculous!

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Agree, good offer.

Missy - You have to consider many aspects of the job before stating accepting less than $90,000 is ridiculous.

Location, type of practice, ability to bill all must be considered.

Specializes in Eventually Midwifery.

I have really cannot offer any information, but I would love to know if it is common practice to split bonuses with one's supervisor...

Specializes in family nurse practitioner.

I think it is fair because the patients are coming to the office because Dr. So and So is there. So there would be no bonus to get if he/she weren't there. I think its a great opportunity! Let us know how it works out :) please. Is this your first job ? Congrats either way!

The supervising physician split sounds fishy. Is the supervising physician splitting their bonus with you?

Specializes in Psychiatric Nursing.

I would think in two years you would have little need for supervision. Maybe by then you could negotiate a different contract. I agree it sounds odd.

Specializes in Adult Internal Medicine.

Very similar to the deal I took and I am very happy with it.

Usually the "split" is for covering of practice overhead.
