Hello! I just found out I am 8 weeks pregnant and I have a horrible UTI. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if Zithromax is safe to take for it? I don't feel like I can wait to see my Dr. and I have tons of free samples of z-pak lying around my house. Can anyone please help? Thanks!:imbar

Dec 17, 2003 please put ina page to your doctor and ask him/her this.I would love to help you but I am not a doctor just a nurse and I would never discuss what is "safe" medication for use in pregnancy.I wish you well....feel better soon! UTIs are hell.

Now is not the time to play "home pharmicist", IMO.bob
OBNurseShelley 195 Posts Dec 17, 2003 yes I agree, I was going to stay, you're not even supposed to take a tylenol in your first trimester, but hey I'm not a doc, so not my call to make

Also, you can call Motherrisk phone line for questions regarding "safety" in pregnancy regardless if it is related to medications, cleaning products or whatever the question may be. THis is an approaved organization.Hope you are feeling better.

Dec 17, 2003 NO DO NOT "FORGET THE DOCTOR"...a physical assessment is NEEDED here....not the words of a pharmacist. Yes he/she is the expert in DRUGS and uses but this does NOT take the place a knowledge of a patient's health history, physical assessment and appropriate treatment based upon these!!!!!this was very irresponsible advice here.PLEASE CALL THE DOCTOR....at least have him/her paged!!! ASAP.good luck.

Dec 18, 2003 Just wanted to let you all know that I somehow made it through the night and called my Doc first thing the next morning. They saw me right away and put me on Macrodantin 100 mg bid x 7 days. I did not take the Zpak- just wanted to know if anyone out there knew if it was safe. I guess I felt desperate d/t the horrid pain I was in. On top of that I've been fighting the flu. Not on any meds for it, my Doc just told me to take Tylenol for any aches, pains or fever. I am now on my way to recovery and feeling much better! Thanks to all for the advice.

Dec 27, 2003 I can not testify whether zithromax is safe or not, but i had to take it in 1st trimester because I had a horrible sinus infection that went into my ear. My daughter is healthy and well. I'm glad u are feeling better and any time u feel like u are getting a UTI, call your OB right away. good luck
