Your school's exam review policy

Hello,

I am wondering what your school's exam review policy is?

We used to go over tests question by question, as long as everyone had taken the test, and with the understanding that no one take notes.

Recently they changed the policy and there are no more test reviews at all. They are also not giving us a printout that shows which questions we got wrong (so we could see it was the musculoskeletal section vs. the respiratory section. We are also forbidden from discussing the test among ourselves, I will admit this is a bit of a relief, some people were a little obsessive lol.

If we had enough wrong they will meet with us and give us general feedback, as in "you need to review the fundamentals of suctioning" or "you did not know your cardiac meds". If you only got a couple wrong they may not have time to go over them with you.

So, what does your school do?

They told us that since you can't discuss the NCLEX, we are just trying to get in line with that. I think that it is nice to get reviews and rationals for questions that caused us problems expecially if it is something that applies to our nursing practice. (my:twocents:)

Thanks!

Most of our professors go over the exams, and we discuss different rationales for answers that we chose. No note taking, but I'm sure people do it anyway. No print outs, we just have to know and understand what we got wrong at the time of the review. I think you can go and review your exam with the professor privately up to two weeks after getting the results. It's also recmmended that you visit the professor soon after failing the first exam.

At my school we have this silent review thing. The professors put up the test and give the rationale as to why the other choices weren't right and why the answer was correct, the only catch is that this goes on only for the questions that 60% of the class missed. Other than that you are on your own. We cannot see what we individually missed. The instructors give you concepts to review. I believe that it hinders you because if you don't know where you went wrong, you can't begin to know how to fix it.

Our instructors have exam review in their offices at posted times for all exams except the final. You are basically given your test to look at and you can ask questions about rationales. It is stressed that no bags, jackets etc are allowed into the office and if anybody argues about their test, the review is over. So far it has been pretty nice, I know not everybody takes advantage of it but it has helped me understand some of the things that I missed.

We review our tests after class the day we take them, they put the answer key out on the stage (our class is in an auditorium) and you can walk up and look them over. You can not bring anything with you. If everyone has not taken the test the we don't do review until the class after everyone has taken them. We are allowed to review our individual tests with instructors or in the test taking lab however we can have nothing to write with/on while doing so. We aren't allowed to talk about the test right after we take it if others have not taken it yet.

We had to make appointments with the instructor, in their office. There was usually a time limit. Three students were allowed at a time, and you had to leave your stuff in the hall. The instructor gave you a highlighter, your test, and your answer key. You looked them over and just asked whatever you wanted, and she would explain the rationale to you. It was very casual, with no tension. The students were cognizant of the students waiting behind them, so everyone cut to the chase. You couldn't write anything down to bring outside with you. No reviews for finals.

Our nursing class had no problems with these rules. They were fair, and the instructors made sure we knew why we had gotten the incorrect ones wrong.

We have to remove all books, backpacks, pens, and pencils. We then go through the whole test and she explains the ones that most people missed. We are forbidden to talk about the test to other classes. We are also allowed to review the test in the professors office within one week of taking the test.

When i was in school, we were given a sheet that showed us the answers we got wrong. The answers were posted in a class and two professors were present. Only 5 students at a time and a 5-10 minute limit. No talking, no phones, no bags, etc. This is how it worked my whole time at the school. The past 3 semesters before me didnt have this because people were somehow cheating on exams, taking down answers from the review, etc. I'm just glad we were able to review. The professors were not suppose to discuss the questions and answers with us. But if you went to the prof, she would usually sit with you and talk it out.

I guess my teachers were pretty liberal. We would usually have exam review in class a couple of days after the exam. You weren't allowed to write anything down but we would go over each question and if students had questions or wanted to defend another answer choice we would discuss it. Some teachers would accept another answer if the rationale made sense, while other teachers would not budge and became quite defensive. You could also review your test privately or more in depth during office hours.

Our school has were you can review the questions you missed after the exam. But we have to use a lockdown browser when we take this test (we cant click outside the windows, can't copy or paste, and can't open other programs). And we only get to see the ones we missed and get the rationale why it wasn't correct and this is done silently looking at it on the computer and we get about 10 mintues. If you make below passing, which is 75, then you are required to meet with the professor and discuss the exam. Everyone has the option of meeting with the professor and discussing problems they had with the exam if they wish to do so. Before they implemented this lockdown browser and were having problems with people(last semester)we did not get to review the exams until after our last one which was like 3 days before the final, go figure!!!

Our entire semester takes each test at the same time on the same day from 1330 to 1445. At 1500 we have review. Each test question is projected on the screen with the correct answer and rationals for all answers. We can have nothing with us and are not allowed to say a word. Its a little nerve wreaking watching everyone with one, two, three etc. fingers held up counting up our wrong answers. It is, however, nice to know immediately how you did.

At our school it varies by instructor. Some instructors go over the test immediately after everyone has taken the exam, while others make you attend office hours and then allow you to look over your exam with the answer key. I prefer the latter because it forces me to go to office hours to ask questions.
