Petition to Force NP Programs to Provide Preceptors
I would absolutely sign the petition. I have been in this exact position, I realized that everyone has different reasons why they chose online school, but this standard should not be tolerated. I spent almost a year trying to find preceptors only to fall short a month before I had to travel for a skills weekend. I decided through all the drama that this would not be my future 2 years in this program, scared and stressed that if I didn't have a preceptor I was screwed for the semester. I loved the theory parts on online school, I was able to continue working full time and supporting my family, but when it an to clinicals the school dropped the ball. I wanted to make sure that we would be getting the same kind of experiences, what if there were issues could the school step in? Basically there answer was since we don't find the preceptor for you, we have no control over your clinical experience. That was the straw the broke the camels back. I kindly said I would sit out this year and return in the fall. I decided to apply to 3 "brick & mortar" schools in my area that secure preceptors for you. Thankfully I was accepted at all 3 of the schools and will start back in the fall.

North Carolina Nursing Opportunities
Honestly I don't know of anyone who got a job at UNC, Duke is my employer and about 5 of my classmates, Baptist (WFUBMC) hired a lot, but they give preference to employees and externs, they also have a ED Academy for new grads. ECU is also a huge teaching hospital. Being BSN prepared, all we are taught is that is the best choice, however everyone must choose their best option. In my personal opinion, you might as well, because a lot of the ADN's in my area spent as much or a small amount of less time in school and they kinda regret not doing the BSN. Majority of the big teaching hospitals are looking for a BSN, especially when they have the option of being extremely selective.

Are nursing grads still having a hard time finding jobs?

Are nursing grads still having a hard time finding jobs?
WOW... I'm sorry everyone is having such a hard time, but if you want to be a nurse then this shouldn't stop you. The reality is that there are a lot of new grads without jobs, but new grads are getting jobs too. I recently graduated (May 2010) with a BSN and had a job offer right after graduation. About 75% of my class has jobs at major hospitals in Acute or critical care areas, so it can be done. Your shooting yourself down before you even START nursing school, thats probably 2 yrs away, and who knows what the job market will look like. I mean the country is in a recession and it has hit healthcare. I would recommend that you get a BSN because a lot of hospitals, at least in my area are prefering that degree. Best Wishes to you, but please dont let negativity destroy your goals.

North Carolina Nursing Opportunities
Hello! Best wishes on the program!! I am currently a new graduate from WSSU traditional BSN program. I was definitely hard to get a job, even an interview this year. Many of my classmates still do not have jobs, but while your in school it is important to make your resume look as impressive as you can. Also, working at a hospital as a CNA or a summer internship would help you get your foot in the door. Although the job market is bleek, myself and others have gotten jobs at major hospitals in NC in Level 1 trauma ED's, ICU's and specialties. So it can BE DONE!!!! Don't worry about a job until you get through school and the NCLEX!

What should I do with these??
Has anyone gotten rid of their ATI books after graduation and NCLEX? My school told us that we could sell them to anyone else (which makes sense), but I really don't see the need for them anymore, should I just trash them? Thanks!

Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
I took my NCLEX-RN on tues 06/22/10 and just found out that I passed with 75 questions!!!!! I had been doing the trick since test day and I always got the "good" popup!!! I asked the lady at the test center and she said that it is true, unless outstanding issues are impeding your results! I just thank God for Favor, Mercy and Grace!!!! Best Wishes to EVERYONE!!!

Is NCSBN a good course to take? What course would you recommend?
I used NCSBN to review, mostly to do questions and Saunders for content. NCSBN has A LOT of in depth reading. I took the NCLEX on Tues and stopped at 75, I find out my results tomorrow (I got the good pop up). The questions are most like NCSBN, but honestly they are not like anything I used (Kaplan, I CAN, Saunders, Hurst). Best Wishes!

NCSBN's Comprehensive??
I personally don't like the fact that it is so tedious, but I love the questions, the hardest by far. I've done Kaplan, I CAN and Saunders. I can't sing it's praises just yet because I test next week, but from others in my class who have tested they say learning ext questions are most similar to NCLEX! I hope and pray they are right! Best wishes to you and everyone else testing!

Your school's exam review policy
At my school we have this silent review thing. The professors put up the test and give the rationale as to why the other choices weren't right and why the answer was correct, the only catch is that this goes on only for the questions that 60% of the class missed. Other than that you are on your own. We cannot see what we individually missed. The instructors give you concepts to review. I believe that it hinders you because if you don't know where you went wrong, you can't begin to know how to fix it.

Thank you so much for responding, a lot of things your respective chapters do are becasue you have everyone involved, but at my school we are strictly a club, not a part of SGA and we can't add pts to a theory class for participation. Although that very original. Have any of you been to the Midyear or National convention?? I am trying to get things in place for my chapter to attend Nationals, but we have never been before.
