I was wanting to start a thread to see what the average gpa is nationwide at the time of your application. I am down in south Mississippi and it seems to be anywhere from a 3.0 to a 4.0.
I hope that my fellow nurses-to-be won't read this thread and become discouraged or feel intimidated by the high gpa's being listed.A good nurse is NOT made of grades alone.
Unfortunately with the new 'points grid' admission systems that are so popular right now, we're probably going to have a bumper crop of book smart robot nurses in about two years!
For many people, the science prereq courses are their first taste of challenging science material. I know I certainly did not come from a science background, and I cannot express how proud I am of myself for pulling a B in Anatomy and Physio after studying Sociology in my undergrad!
I just wanted to say thanks for posting this as I was actually feeling a bit intimidated with all these 4.0 GPA's. I managed a 79 in Fundamentals of Life Science which pretty much ruined my chances of ever getting a 4.0 overall GPA thankfully it does not count for admissions. Even though it is not the greatest grade I can atleast say I passed it the 1st time around : Yeah!:
Good luck to you in all your future en-devours! I am just getting started on my prereq journey and plan to take my A&P this fall!
My pre-req GPA is 3.88 All A's and a B in gen Chem. My overall gpa is a little lower because of courses I took during high school. I will be applying for this fall but feel very discouraged because I didn't expect it to be soo competitive. My school had 700 applicants last semester, 500 qualified and 30 were accepted
i am not sure how to read this so maybe someone can help...
i really never paid any attention to this before....
i took alg on line and chem on campus last spring...only 2 pre-reqs i needed.....received a B in ALg and a C+ in chem and A in chem lab....it says on my final grades my GPA was a 2.87..that is jst chem cause ALG was taken at another college.....BUT after taking A & P 1 my cumulative GPA is a 3.43....which my GPA for A & P was 4.0...but after the 2 being added together its the 3.43......what do you think it will be after adding the B from ALG in??....
Is 3.43 OK?....also....where are you getting 30,40 or whatever the number is for credit hrs?...its all new to me...
thanks!
