Your a nurse--You should know better!!

Nurses General Nursing

That is what I was told today by another nurse--the nurse at my sons school.

See I had graciously volunteered my time with about 25 other parents to take over the school for 45min so the entire staff could enjoy a Christmas lunch togather. I was assisgned to gym class. I had the 3rd graders. We could have played kick ball but the kids were not really paying attention--goofing off in line waiting for thier turn to kick---So I had the brilliant idea of lets play "Red Rover- Red Rover" --All kids were included, everyone had a great time.

When our time was up and we were putting on our coats one of the other moms asked what we did in gym class and I told her, that is when the school nurse over heard-eyes rolling/shoulders back and announced in a surpingsly lound voice in front of everyone including the principal. "Your a nurse-you should know better, Red Rover is known to pull childrens arms out of socket, can cause abdominal injuries and head injuries" etc etc etc. Apparently Red Rover has been banned from my kids school for about 10 years now!!

Yikes---if she only knew I actually let my boys climb trees, run with sticks and and play knuckels till someone cries...

My high school- yes HIGH SCHOOL started banning games like kickball and dodgeball when I was still going there. They just changed the names of the games and we still played.

Our high schools have a "prison ball" after school club. I think it's a hard core form of dodgeball. To balance it, they also have a rock, paper, scissors club. :)

Our local merchants and the city have a kick ball league where anything goes. Nothing funnier than watching the stoned vegans and anarchists from the Anarchy Bookstore play a bunch of drunk guys and gals from the Fire, Medical and Police department. Everyone dresses up somehow, and a good time is had by all. The last game the fam and I went to, one guy lost some teeth and a 90# girl ran headlong into a 250# firefighter and knocked herself out cold.

The city is thinking of building a roller rink; all I can think of is that I so want to be on a roller derby team!!

Ahhh, grownups getting in touch with their dirty, bloody inner child. It that's wrong, I don't want to be right.

Gosh, I loved Red Rover!!! All the neighborhood kids would come over and we'd have such a great time. Whoever thought the day would come when a classic would be banned? So next will be Tag because someone could trip and skin their knee. Gosh, let's just let our kids plop in front of the TV and keep them safe, opps I forget they say that leads to childhood obesity. Darned if you do darned if you don't. Bravo for giving the kids a fun afternoon!!!:yeah:

Not next it'll be Tag, at our elementary school it's been banned for as long as mine have been there (my oldest is in middle school this year). Monkey bars are ok for those that can touch the first bar (which does exclude the young ones). But its the parents fault that this generation is unmotivated and obese!

We live in what I call farmtown. No neighbors for a few miles. So, recess is the only consistent time mine have to play with lots of other kids.

Here's one for all of you. The elementary school kids can play with some kids. 5K and 1st grade can associate, 2nd and 3rd can hang out, and 4th and 5th can hang out. If a 4th grader plays with a 3rd grader, they walk over and split them up. They say it keeps bullying down! My response was to ask the prinicpal how the kids learn how to tolerant each other and also how can you promote good leadership skills if the upper grades can't teach the younger ones how to play kickball? Did I mention there are only 125 students in the elementary school? Way overboard, sometimes I wish we would've stayed in the big city!

I tell ya no good deed goes unpunished. lol For the record Red Rover was one of my fave childhood games and SHOCKER I never ripped an arm out of its socket or suffered an abdominal/head injury. The woman obviously has a need for attention and drama. Poor children that have to deal with her daily. Maybe they can knit during gym. Oh wait...they could poke their eyes out. Maybe cards would be better. Rut roh...that could lead to a gambling addiction. I'd better think about this one. lol

worst i had was a tooth knocked out...THAT WAS LOOSE ANYWAY
