Your help needed!!!

Hello, everyone. I am new to this cite and would very much appreciate some feedback. I graduated two years ago with a bachelors in English Communications and is applying to a few direct entry accelerated MSN programs for non-nursing backgrounds. I have no prior experience in nursing and have not done well in the past in sciences or maths. I want to pursue this because I want a rewarding career that I can find fullfilling and pays well. Nursing has always interest me, but I fear because of my weakness in science I may not be able to do well in the program. Does anyone have any suggestions for me

Science needs to be a strong point for someone pursuing a nursing degree. I got my BSN through a 4 year program. Some of my pre reqs were Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, Biology I and II- also took Statistics. Took some social science classes too. Basically, nursing=science.

Post Boston - I too feared going into nursing because I always found science courses tough. I had always had a love for nursing, but when I graduated from high school and was deciding on what to pursue a degree in, I chickened out and started going to school for an Accounting degree because Math was always my strongpoint. I attended a University that also had a Nursing school and one day I just woke up and said to myself I should go check it out and see exactly how much science I would need to take, etc. I went and was so scared to switch my major to nursing because I really felt like I was setting myself up to fail because I knew how bad I was in science.

Well to make a long story short, I decided to switch my major to nursing because I knew that was what I wanted to be and I felt if I wanted it, then I could do it. I won't tell you it came easy to me, but I studied hard, went to every class, and tried my hardest. I did have some C classes, but I'll tell you all my other nursing courses and clinicals I did wonderful in. I know you can do it if being a nurse is what you want to be. When you really want something you can do it. There may be days you will struggle, but when that happened to me I would talk to a classmate or the professor if I needed any extra help on the topic or to better understanding something. I'd say go for it! I'm a new grad nurse just getting started, but I love it already and know there isn't anything else I'd rather be at this point in my life. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any help. Jen

If you know you have a prob with sciences, then just brace yourself for many nights where your date consists of yourself and your text. What some of my classmates do is get together in study groups and that may help you as well. If you need help, ask. Don't be afraid and fall so far behind that you just can't do anything since you don't understand the intial concept. If you work hard, your marks will show it. :)

a lot of nursing is based on science and math. maybe get a tutor or rethink why you want to be a nurse. good luck.

not much math in nursing. just basic stuff. but science is a big part of most of what we do. just work hard and i'm sure you will do well if this is what you want. good luck.

What sciences and math have you taken already?
