Your first semester/quarter grades

Published

If I may ask, what were your grades like in your very first term/semester of nursing school?

I am disappointed in my grades. I am used to having higher grades (A's) and I am a little down, even though I didn't do terrible (A in a one credit hour course, a B in Patho, and a B plus in Foundations). I am taking Human nutrition next quarter along with a continuation in courses in patho, foundations and the one credit course. On the plus side, I will also have a one credit hour horse back riding class that I am looking forward to.

I also finished my fourth semester with an 86! One more to go!

NOt as good as I wanted but acceptable now that I've been through the 1st semester: A in Intro to Pharm, B in Patho, A in Intro to Mental Health, B in Gerontology and B in Clinical Development I (Fundamentals) All of the B's I was about 1% away from an A... so that stunk even worse. Main thing I learned was to take advantage of all of the easy points. (i.e. HOMEWORK!! do it all and do it well.) and when you think you are done studying, spend 15 more minutes. It might get you 1 or 2 more points and in the end those will add up.

Oh and our scale is weird: 93+ is an A, 85-92.9 is a B and 80-84.9 is a C, below that is failing.

Fundamental A- Pharm A- Med Surg I B+, Advance Med Surg B-

What did you learn in your first semester of Health Assessment? During orientation we were told we'd have a test the first day but wasnt told what to go over! Ahh Ive been reading my mom's old HA book but geez WHERE do I start. Im hoping its just vitals! :)

Any advice!?

In my first semester I made a 97 A in nursing fundamentals. I completed all my pre-requisites prior to nursing school, and I made an A in everything except anatomy and physiology I, which I made a B in.

Our fundamentals class included skills lab, a lecture portion, a clinical portion, and pharmacology math exams. I scored 100 percent in pharmacology, skills, and clinical, and ended up with a 97 average in lecture. Our grades in clinical, skills, and pharmacology don't contribute to our overall grade, but they must be above an 86 or we are dropped from the program.

We don't have a class called Health Assessment specifically but in Fundamentals we learned health assessment and it covered vitals and everything else. We did a complete head to toe assessment: lymph nodes, pupillary reactions, otoscope exams, palpation, auscultation, percussion, Romberg's sign, the Snellen chart, you name it.
