Your Favorite Review Course?

I'm doing some research, and I'd like to ask a few questions.

1. What are your favorite review courses for the NCLEX?

2. What about each course make it stand out?

3. What didn't you like?

4. If you had to do it all over again, what would be the most important things you'd look for in a review course?

Thanks so much!

Know your learning style first.

I'm auditory ans kinetic learner. So I learned better with videos and handons.

Here are my nclex review courses/book:

1. Ncbsn for content and questions.

I like how organized it is but you have to love to read. No video/audio materials. But questions are relatively similar to real nclex questions. Reading materials are easy to understand and cover everything you need to know for nclex.

2. Brilliantnurse.com - I love all the videos. Few of them was taught by doctors. So they are too much information. Test taking video helped me to analyze and break down question. Plus, it is cheaper than other review courses.

3. Lacharity PAD book... love all the questions, this helped me alot with my priority, delegation and assignment questions. Just like the book title...

I liked Kaplan for questions, and picnomic.com for content

The answer you're seeking isn't really "what are our favorite review courses" but "what review courses work best for what people, what situations?" They all work. They all fail.

People who got through nursing school but still have trouble getting down the basics of content of the program, nursing knowledge, will probably do best with a program like Hurst, which is content heavy. It doesn't do as much for those who have content down solid but need help on prioritization, strategy.

For those people, a program like Kaplan is well advised. Kaplan assumes you have the content down pat, but now need help practicing "what do I do" with the info. IOW, how to demonstrate you know how to apply the knowledge in everyday settings. And if you don't....you will by the time you're done ;)

Good luck to you!

1. I've been using NCBSN and Hurst mostly. My program required us to do the NCBSN prior to graduating and Hurst was offered to us at a discount at our school.

2. I loved NCBSN to review specific content, it is a lot of reading though which may not be the most effective for learning. However, they also have a ton of excellent nclex questions. Hurst is great for a content review, they have videos and the book has been helpful. Their questions are also pretty difficult and have been great practice so far.

A lot of people swear by Kaplan or Hurst. You have to pick what you think is right for you. I've used Hurst and a little bit of Kaplan because they also have a free app with Qbank questions.
