Six medical employees were fired for unauthorized access to medical records at Mt. Sinai.
Amazing even today that people don't realize their every keystroke at work (and becoming more so in your private home) can be traced. Not only did they all get canned, that hopsital and the others involved will be sued for millions, for sure- then more people will probably be laid off.

Wow, sometimes all we need to do is wait for the media when it comes to popular people.

I'd be willing to bet that the incidence of unauthorized access hasn't really increased; it's just that EMRs allow for tracking whereas paper charts didn't. People who didn't get caught before need to realize that they can easily be caught with the new systems.

When I saw the first words of the headline were "Kim Kardashian" I almost closed it right then. That would have been a tragedy since I scrolled down and confirmed that I don't have a seizure disorder when I saw her in the rose dress (yikes!). The people who looked in her chart were probably looking for some hint as to why she gave her child the name "North" (yikes again!).
In all seriousness, what were these people (the ones who looked in the chart) thinking? It seems like every time a high profile person is in the hospital, we find out about hospital staff who open that person's chart. I know that around here, a very well know athlete was hospitalized after a MVC. Sure enough, people were fired after they snooped around in his chart.

Snooping charts is nothing new, EMR's just give us the ability to know when a chart has been snooped.

no such thing as privacy, just penalities for being caught
