Young student

Published

Hi, I'm 19 years old, male who is thinking about taking a BS in nursing. Whats the average age? I know people going to be much older than me and i dont think I will fit in with only 30+ people in my class and thats my biggest concern being the only young male student :S How many young 20's are there compared to the rest? I know its difficult to say, but how many would you say? Thanks. / Young

I'm 19. I started right after I graduated High school.

i felt the same way you did.

I never guessed I'd become friends with women over twice my age.

youngest in my class, outnumbered by women 12 to 1. It's not a big deal at all.

and it definately wouldn't be a bad place to be if you are single

Specializes in Med Surg, ER, OR.
p.s. pretty sad i can dose out narcotics yet i cant buy beer? !?

Same here man! I will be 2 days 21 when I graduate, scary huh? I just wonder what all these patients think when we come in and are so young? Many of mine have told me that they have thought I was 10yrs my elder, so I am not too concerned with the age difference. The only two students younger than me will be 20 when we graduate and have a month-few months after that in order to get the "legal stuff."

In my class of 200+ most people are in their early-mid 20s. I myself am 29. We had one guy that was 17 when he started last semester. We also have a few with gray hairs - probably in their late 50s or so.

I think most people look more at someone's individual level of maturity than mere age alone. Actually, we have some middle-aged women in our class who gossip, snicker, and talk during lectures like there's no tomorrow. It's really quite annoying. Then we have some 19-20 year olds who are extremely focused.

We also have some international students in our class, which I think you'll likely see in any decent-sized college or university. That in itself sort of adds to the whole judging people on an individual basis atmosphere.

I'm only 17 and I love it!! It's good being the youngest ones at times.. But @ the same time @ my college a lot of the people in my class are old enough to be my parents and yah, instead of them coming to me as a classmate the majority of the time they look at me from a parent's prospective.. && we haven't even had like actual classes yet.. Just like orientations and cpr classes and other small stuff.. So yah.. It's cool.. I can make it!!

I'm currently 30 and one semester from fininshing my BS. I'd say most of the guys (all of 7) are mostly in late 20's, 1 is 21 now and there's 2 who are over 40.
