I am currently 20 years old working on my BSN at an accelerated program and will be 21 when I graduate and become an RN. Although, I'm the youngest in my class, there are many other young students who are in their early 20's also. Sometimes I feel very discouraged when people (students and even some profs) discount my worries and fears about getting into a grad or doc program after my bsn because of a possibly lower gpa because I "am still young and don't need to rush". People need to understand that I worked my butt off during high school to graduate with my nursing prereqs and have the opportunity to apply to a nursing program upon grad because I worked hard and deserve it. My age shouldn't have to matter when it comes to my future goals and plans towards a higher education. Even some of the nurses give me the same approach and I'm sick of it. Yes I'm young now, but I'd also like to be young when I become a CRNA... My age is just a number and it got me into a BSN program so I'm sure I can pull it off again for a Grad program. Any one can relate!!!???
People tell you these things not to discount your fears, but because it's true -- you *do* have time. You are lucky to be focused at a young age! It is definitely a blessing, not a curse.
I'm sure you can make graduate school happen if you want it badly enough. It's a matter of persistence. If you have the persistence and can make the time to pull off the required grades and study hard, you'll get there. Don't worry about getting in; focus on doing your best right here, right now. You've already got a plan, so go for it!
Wow this is great, I am 19 and i was taking pre-reqs for pharmacy before i switched to nursing...i too want to go to grad school for the CRNA program....when i tell people they say "whats the rush" and i am always like whats not to rush...i am no longer confused i know what i want so why do i have to delay myself...I will be 22 when i graduate, i think. *if i get accepted* ....i obsess over my plans after my BSN so much so that i know what schools i want to apply to...i sounds silly but i've worked hard, still do and i dont think it is anyone's place to tell me when i should pursue my dreams...yes we're young, but we are driven!! ....I wish you the best of luck...Keep the flag flying!!
It would be great if more people your age were like you. There are so many teenagers who only care about drinking and partying, and they pick schools and majors that allow them to do so. They have no goals or ambition, run around and do what they want and just end up getting in trouble. Its great that you know what you want to do and are doing it. I would love to see more young people in the work force, making a contribution to society instead of throwing back shots in night clubs till 3 in the morning or on girls gone wild. I'll be a fairly young RN myself if, God willing, everything goes smoothly by 24 y/o. Keep up the good work!

I sure wish I had my crap together when I was your age. People are just jealous! Congratulation to you for doing so much at such a young age. You have such a head start!
