I am super excited and nervous to start. I have to pass my physical tomorrow (I. Have Pre-existing back problems and. Fibromyalgia ) and that should go ok, from what people have told me it's more so they can get a baseline. Anyway so pending that I am due to start new employee orientation for the hospital MTW.

Well got my floor schedule and I am working 12's on Th,F and Sat on nights and might have a few hours orientation Thursday during the day. The week after is computer training so much the same and same work schedule next 3 weeks. (Th,F,S) 12 HR nights. So I was figuring it out and it's about 60 hrs a week for the next 2 weeks. Pretty much Sunday will be my only day off.

Hoping with a case of 5 HR energy drinks I will be ok, lol on the plus side I start on the new pay period so my first paycheck should ROCK between the night differentials, weekend differentials and overtime!!! It will be much needed!

congrats! sounds like you off with a bang, and a whirlwind too. just curious, did you tell upfront of your back condition or did they "find" it in a medical background search? Can't wait to hear how your first week goes: pts, co-workers, conditions...keep us updated.

I was upfront with it when I went to do my occupational health stuff. I had my initial contingent job offer that was dependent on background check and occupational health check that consisted of a drug screen, immunization screen or shots if you needed, color blind test and then they ask about health and medications you're on. Well the paper said if they find out you are dishonest about anything you will be terminated immediately and there were questions specifically regarding my back. Also on my prescriptions I have a monthly prescription of percocet. (it's a small quantity) but would need an explanation on that. So anyway I was honest. They requested my medical records and treatments and I go in for a physical tomorrow which I should pass fine and they will get baseline range of motions done.

It shouldn't be an issue at all from what I have been told and even from what occupational health implied but I still have that small worry. She said it's more for them to see what my baselines are incase I claim an injury on the job. It was a worry to be honest about it but I was more worried to lie.

Hey Vida! This is your first RN job right? Congrats!!!!!!! How exciting is it to be able to "I'm your nurse"? Woo hoo

Congrats. I can't wait to hear about your first week as well! I also work those same hours and us weekend, night shifters ROCK! LOL. All my physical test consisted of was bending at the knees to the floor and back up again, getting fitted for the respirator and reaching my arms behind my back (one arm from the bottom and the other from the top, if that makes sense). I didn't get my hands to touch but neither could the person giving me the test. I made it a bigger deal than it really was, too! Good luck to you and keep us posted!

@Dolce Yep this is my first job. It's very exciting. Thank you! My NM did realize how loaded my shift was though and emailed me this morning to cut it back to even about 40 hrs for the week. It's bitter sweet! The extra pay would have been nice but my body is happy! lol

@CBMommy That is all it was and they did give me clearance with no restrictions. I tend to worry about everything. LOL Thanks for encouragement I will keep it updated.

oh wow that sounds tough! what is the night and weekend differential per hour if u dont mind me asking?

It's not going to be so bad now, only about 40 hrs. They realized what they did. It's bitter sweet, money would have been nice but my body is glad that it won't be that brutal anymore. LOL

Anyway, Night is 4 p/h on top of base pay as long as you work at least 2 hrs. So if you come on at 7 and get sick and go home at 8 you will only get your base pay. You have to stay past 9 but you get the extra 4 p/h for the whole shift. Weekend is an extra 2 p/h on top of that. OT and Holiday is 1 1/2.

The average starting pay in my area for new grads with associate degrees is 23 p/h (BSN is something like 75 cents more) So night shift would be 27 p/h and night shift on a weekend would be 29 p/h.

From my understanding Float Pool is $2 p/h more but I am not float so I don't know if that is for sure.

Congrats! Let us know how it goes :) I just got my schedule, too, and my first 3 nights are next week on the 29th, 30th and 1st! I have a lot of other nights scheduled after that, too! I am also loving the shift differential/weekend differential :)
