warning: this is kinda loooong.
My story is... I was originally taking my pre-nursing classes at a community college, but since california has so many waitlists (2 yrs. or even more) plus lotteries, I decided to apply to the LVN program at Western Career College (a private school)... because I didn't want to wait for so many years, when I could be working as a nurse already, gaining my experience, etc.. and plus I already have 2 children. So I took the entrance exam a couple of months ago... passed it!
and just yesterday I came into the school to turn in my application and the necessary documents (essay "why I want to be a LVN", my letters of recommendation, etc.. etc..) then spoke to financial aid, who said I was qualified to get the highest grant (pell grant + another grant).. The original cost of the program was $27,522 and because of the grants I was awarded + the $900 school credit they gave me just for doing my physical outside, the final cost of the program became $18, 125.... I couldn't believe it.. they said it was because I had lost both my parents when I was younger and was a ward of the court until I turned 18, and I'm single mother of 2 (not yet married to my boyfriend (my kids father) who I've been with for 9 years already)... so I was already happy for that... all I was dreading for was the wait... waiting for the acceptance letter.
Well later that day I took my kids to play with their cousin at their uncle's house, when I got a call from the LVN rep. She asked me if I could come back down to sign the enrollment papers and pay the registration fee to hold my seat... (I thought, "did that mean I was accepted?") So I had to clarify it with her because when I first talked to the school they said the process could take a couple of weeks because I would have to be accepted by the board of the school first... but she said, "YES! I AM ACCEPTED" she got the word from the board the same day. She also said that I'll be receiving my acceptance letter in the mail soon. (I was SO HAPPY!) I know my friend who applied (who also got accepted, luckily) waited almost a month for her response. So I went back to the school... signed the enrollment papers, paid my registration, then she gave me my enrollment package.. shook my hand and said "CONGRATULATIONS!" my next step is to attend the orientation, get fitted for the uniform, and have my picture taken for my school i.d.
There were only 30 seats available, and I was #3 out of hundreds of applicants. I still can't believe I was accepted the same day!! YAY FOR ME...!!!!!!!!!!!!
