Hey all! I am reapplying and wanted to create this for everyone applying. I won't be as involved as I was last year, but good luck to everyone! I know they're having seminars and allowing people to schedule one on one consultations for applications.
Thanks for clarifying. Indeed if it's relatively old then it's probably best not to attract too much attention to it. If I understand well, you are attending another Yale school right now, right? I'd think that if that Yale school knew of this and they admitted you, you should be fine.
Fingers crossed:) then.

I am really nervous about my apps because I have to write an academic probation statement (not for integrity/cheating/etc. just a subject I simply couldn't grasp). I think everything else is good (3.7X GPA, GREs in the 160s/5.5, veteran, grad degree from a different school at Yale) but I'm worried that probation question could get my application preemptively tossed in a rejection pile. I will also be curious to know how my prior work experience is treated (chaplaincy, which is definitively not healthcare, and yet healthcare adjacent). Also applying to Penn, Columbia, Boston College and Vanderbilt.
Best of luck everyone!
You'd bring a very unique background to YSN from within the Yale community. I too had a probationary blip on my academic record and I attached a supplemental paper explaining it. I dropped too many classes due to needing to work during the economic crisis in 2008, therefore was on "progress probation". It was from a community college I took prereqs at here and there, so I never worked it off as I was not degree-seeking. I also used that letter to explain my less than stellar GRE scores. I spoke with Yale about this during the application cycle last year and they urged me to write that supplemental paper explaining my circumstances. If anyone would like to verify with Jana, I'm sure she'll tell you the same. As this is not part of the cookie-cutter requirements they send out via email to everyone and is situational that requires reaching out on your part.
I read your post a few days ago, but we're coming out of the marathon of midterms now. There are a handful of previous Yale students in my cohort from both undergrad and other graduate programs. Like most schools, you tend to get an edge as an alum. Also, we take "ILCE" which is the NP, MD, and PA students working together and my group has an MD student that was a Yale undergrad. So basically, I see a lot of repeat Yalies.
Also, to anyone applying I'd ask how many they're planning on accepting this year (because if anyone is like me, I like the odds game during this tedious wait). The reason I say this is because there has been chatter that people from my cohort deferred due to COVID. I'm not sure if this affects how many open spots there will be for the 2021 Cohort.
Good luck everyone! I know this is a long gut-wrenching process. Hang in there.
Hi!
I haven’t posted here yet, but thank you all for starting/adding to this thread!
I am applying this year for the first time. I’m applying to the pediatric specialty, and have no experience shadowing since I decided to pursue this career change this year, and no one is willing to have me come in and be an extra body in their settings. I have had a few calls with NPs, and am hoping that will suffice for the time being. That is definitely the part of the application that has me the most concerned! Otherwise, I am working on my prerequisites now and am just about to finish my Chemistry class...then it’s on to everything else!
Like some of the other posters, I also have been out of undergrad/grad for a long time (2006/2008), and have young children. I would be commuting from another part of CT if accepted. I’m also applying to Fairfield - not sure if anyone else here is doing the same or applying to other schools in the general vicinity?
One thing I just ran into on the app is thinking about the ethical dilemma question, which I saw someone else posted about as well. I have a few examples that I have been mulling over, but, if anyone were to compare notes with my resume, my stories would clearly give away the companies/places of business that I reference, even if I don’t name them. What do others think about that?
@kc_FNPtobe We had an info session last Friday, and I believe that Jana said that the class size would be ~115, but now I’m nervous about your intel, and whether that number includes deferrals! If anyone has any more information, please share!
Good luck to everyone!! This is going to be an exciting ride!!

Lmao I love your username. All of the schools I am applying to are on the east coast, but not on purpose. I was actually trying to get away from winters because I'm from midwest, just worked out that way. I'm also working on pre reqs.
About the ethical dilemma, that's actually a great point. I'm working on it as we speak and said the company in my response. I didn't mention names and used gender neutral pronouns, but I get your concern from a privacy perspective. I'm assuming they understand that your story will more than likely be coming from something on your resume and you're not trying to be the negative nancy regarding a previous employer. It is a reality that things happen.
I have a session on Thursday and plan to ask about the deferments and how they affect the cohort size. I'll also try to remember to ask about the ethical concerns regarding the ethics question, so ironic.
Ha, thank you for all of the above! Yes, I was half worried about outing my company, but also worried that they might read the essay and be concerned that we don’t know how to show discretion/maintain confidentiality. Any insight that you can glean would be wonderful! We’ll be here anxiously refreshing! Haha.

Mine is one page, yes. I used a template from Canva (if you don’t have it, make an account! It’s free!), and was able to jam everything in. I have two schools and 14 years of work experience, so it was tight, but, in my experience, it’s best to keep it to a page. Other people may have different opinions!

Really?? Mine is more than one page but I'm doing a CV since I am only working off of 5 years of work experience

I’m sure people have different styles/opinions here. In my industry, we are advised to keep it to a page, but it sounds like your approach is great as well!

Also, I realized my wording was a bit vague, just for clarity, it was *not* an integrity/cheating/etc. violation. Purely academic, which I suppose is better LOL.
