Hey all! I am reapplying and wanted to create this for everyone applying. I won't be as involved as I was last year, but good luck to everyone! I know they're having seminars and allowing people to schedule one on one consultations for applications.

Anything you want to know specifically?
Hi all, this is my first post here, but I am applying for the 2022 cycle for the GEPN and PNP specialty and wanted to know if you might have any advice for me.
I graduated in 2017 from a state school with a BA in history (3.83 cumulative GPA, 4.0 major GPA) and also completed all standard medical school prerequisites thinking I might apply to medical school.
After I graduated, I taught in 7th grade science in our local middle school (where I went to school years ago!) for two years. After all I saw that my students went through (I taught in rural WV) and reading The Deepest Well, I decided again to pursue the medical field but did not feel like medical school would fully prepare me to provide holistic care.
That's when I discovered Yale's GEPN program. I have several nurses in my family and have always been inspired by them but didn't think this was a possibility for me until I found Yale's program. Still, I decided that an MSW would provide me with the background in mental health and viewing social determinants of health from a macro level I will need to provide quality care for children in rural WV.
I have finished one year of the MSW program (4.0 so far!) and will finish by the Spring 2022. Since entering the program, I have taught two semesters of introductory biology lab online and am currently a research assistant for a project dealing with the healthcare needs of transgender and gender diverse people living in WV. Additionally, I just completed my internship at a substance use facility for adolescents. Next year, I will be completing it at a FQHC and SBHC.
Overall, I love what I've seen and heard about Yale's PNP specialty with its training in adolescent care and SBHCs. Also, given my research work so far, I am really interested in pursuing the Gender and Sexuality Health Justice concentration. So, any advice as I apply when the app opens in June? Are my chances okay? Any other thoughts?
Thank you in advance for your help!
I had a crappy experience within the GEPN program. I wasn't struggling academically but there are cohort-wide issues at YSN impacting the quality of the education/training. These are systemic issues that weigh on both students and instructors.
They might be in a better spot in a few years, but right now, things are quite iffy. In the end, I felt the GEPN year wasn't worth the hefty price tag and just left in time to get some of my tuition money back.
I urge you to ask very precise questions when you get a chance to meet current students.
Can anyone give any insight on how fast the waitlist moves? I am from the west coast and want to know if I could know by this week or in a few months from now. Also, would like to know if waitlisters are given opportunity to do the admitted students day. I would hate to miss the experience only to get in the next week or whatever!
Hello! Sorry to bother anyone who might still be receiving notifications from this thread - and happy holiday! I am a first-time applicant of GEPN 2023 and I have been reading almost all posts here! Thanks for being so helpful and supportive! I found many useful advice for interview!
Still, I wonder if anyone might keep the copy of the email sent by Jana that include the interview tips and question types? I don't think we receive the email for this year. If anyone could still find it, it would help a lot to my interview prep and I am very grateful! :)))
I have been reading all posts here and I am still curious about what qualities they are looking for in an interview. Originally, I thought interview is more like a process that ensures you are someone not so different from your written application materials. But if the interview is only 30-50 passing rate, I suppose it means interview is very critical to admission? Then the question arises...How should I behave myself in a 20-30 min interview to stand out? Would appreciate any insights!

3.5 ish is way more than just OK, don't downplay it! Yes your application overall sounds super impressive and I think J was honest in letting me know whether or not it was even worth it reapply. So if you don't get into Vanderbilt(but based on what you've said, I believe you have a good chance) or decide to push things off, I absolutely think you should apply again. Unfortunately, I did not apply for the direct entry specifically. Good luck, you got this!
