Hey all! I am reapplying and wanted to create this for everyone applying. I won't be as involved as I was last year, but good luck to everyone! I know they're having seminars and allowing people to schedule one on one consultations for applications.
I have not received the information for the admitted students day and also never received an email from the YSN letting me know to check my status page. Has the information for admitted students day been sent out? Is there someone who I can contact about not receiving YSN emails? Thanks.
@TellMeSomethingGood @has2168 do you both have gmail accounts as your email contact information for Yale?

I did, but I had to change to my work email (which is also hosted by Google), to get their messages.
Hello all! First time commenter here. Congrats to all who were accepted! I applied for the PMHNP track and unfortunately did not even receive an interview. I did chat with Jana today about my application to get feedback on reapplying. I have my RN/BSN so I do know the slots are fewer and more competitive for direct MSN entry. She said that the main thing lacking in my application was letters of references. This hurts to hear because it feels a little outside of my control, but at the same time I should have put more thought into who I asked. I worked so hard on essays and GRE prep and do have a lot valuable experience, but most of my charge nurses over the years have been with short term travel assignments so it was tough to think of people to ask. I think 2 out of my 3 letters of recommendations came across to sound a little generic like they just inserted my name into a LOR template instead of really personalizing it or giving glowing recommendations. Ouch, that hurt to hear! Moving forward, I am planning to reapply next year. For those of you that weren’t accepted and applied again, did you use three new references? Obviously I’ll find stronger ones for at least two out of my three. It just seems like the hardest part for me! I know I’ve made great connections along the years but being a travel nurse for only three months at a time and also on night shifts has made it hard to establish really strong people to use as references. Any advice appreciated! I have also applied to Vanderbilt and am waiting to hear back on that. Much love to you all! :)
Hi Flying nurse! Lovely to meet you. Fingers crossed for Vanderbilt.
I heard there were very few spots for entry with an RN/BSN sadly (I enquired b/c I was tempted for a while to get my ADN and go that route).
I had the option to keep my letters from last cycle on the app, I think I asked and Jana said that was fine but they'd like to see at least 1 new letter. I ended up hearing that one of my recommenders did write a letter that wasn't strong. That did sting a lot, as she had said she'd write me a great letter and I didn't see it coming at all (I had others options and I felt terrible about it for a while). Anyway, I had 3 great letters this time around and it worked.
My advice is to make sure to keep in touch with Jana and ask for her feedback. She wants you to do well and will let you know, she knows the process 100% and is super helpful.
Did anyone have advice about how asking/guiding a reference letter writer? I am not American and so I don't really know the process (in my country, 3 short lines confirming they know you and you didn't burn the place is seen as a great letter-- I felt terribly ill equipped about the whole process!)
Good luck Flying Nurse!
Hi Flying Nurse,
I had the same issue when I applied the first time. I was told my references were “piss poor”, not their words, but basically what I took from it. I basically decided to start over with three letters of recommendations. 1 education to speak on me academically. I have two roles at work so, my nurse supervisor for when I am a floors nurse and social service director when I am in my leadership role and someone I work close with. My nurse supervisor spoke on my nursing skills, while the other reference spoke on my leadership and team work skills. All advice Jana gave to me about my application, I followed to the T. I left no room for them to guess or questioned anything about me. I didn’t change my essays, just added on because they were slightly different. I applied back to back. So, this was my second time and I was accepted.
Recruiter or nursing you’ve being on a long assignment with since you travel as a nurse. I hope this helps... ?

I haven’t received an email about that either. I actually have trouble getting their emails... I didn’t receive the email about the status update until later that evening
