Hi All,
I have been on the lookout for the 2020 thread but figured that I'll have to create one. I am sorry if there is one that I am not aware of.
I am a 2020 hopeful that is looking to make a career switch. I was at one of the information sessions where I gained further insights on the application process and the program. I took the GRE yesterday and was around the 50th percentile for both Q&V.
One of the changes to this years' requirements is that you don't need the GRE if you already have a masters degree or would complete one before the start of the 2020 session. I haven't taken the major prerequisites, but I will take and complete them in the summer of 2020.
I will start talking to my recommenders from next week, I have a tentative list that I composed with a view of having them tell different stories about my candidacy.
May I crave the indulgence of both current and past GEPNs and the benevolence of prospective class of 2020 to make this thread the best one yet. Your views and insights are welcome and appreciated!

That’s a great question! My husband attended the info session I attended in August and it was great for him to get a sense of the program overview. He was also welcomed and it didn’t seem to be a problem. I’m not sure is admitted students day is different but I would be interested to know as well.

Yes, you can bring someone with you to admitted students day. Other students have done it in the past. Some have brought a parent or a sibling with them as a second set of eyes. I would encourage anyone that is planning to move to New Haven with their partner to bring them with you to admitted students day. As you have mentioned above, your partner will also be making the move with you and should have some input in whether they like the place where they might also be spending three years of their life.
It also helps to get a feel of the various neighborhoods in New Haven to get an idea of where you would like to live.
The normal time period is 30 days or about 4 weeks from the date the admission letter is granted. By the end of those 30 days you will have to pay the deposit or you lose your spot. If you decide to attend, the deposit is a credit on your student account and will go towards your overall cost of attendance. If you pay the deposit but choose not to attend, you will lose the deposit. Normally, the admit letter is released through the online portal. You will receive an e-mail saying your portal has been updated and that you should login to see the new notification.
Hope this helps.
Hello!
Does anyone know what types of questions they ask during the interview? I'm looking to do some interview prep work in the next few days and I'm trying to mentally prepare for the possibilities. My guess is that it is highly dependent on the specialty we're going into. Thanks a bunch!
Hey! I just finished my interview— my questions were primarily about why I chose my specialty and why I chose nursing (with some specifics in between). I’d suggest just being familiar with your essay answers and just being honest about why you’re interested! None of the questions felt like they were designed to put you on the spot, just wanting to hear more about why you want to be a part of the program.

Me too! Last name started with an I. When is your interview? Mine is Tuesday. I think it will be okay too - hopefully the interviewer/professor is nice! The chances of acceptance now are confusing me lol. I'm SO nervous. I'm going for GEPN, so I'm not sure if it will be slightly different since it seems you're a practicing nurse already?
