Yale GEPN Program: Letters, Interviews, and Questions, Oh my!!!

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Letters have been sent out offering interviews for Yale's GEPN program this January.

Got questions?

Need answers?

Let's get together here and help each other out.

I am also wondering what sort of attire is appropriate for the interview? Also, in the letter I rec'vd from admissions they stated they do use the "block interview system" yet it also showed that we have individual interviews with a faculty member. Does anyone know what the day entails? is there a group and individual interview? THANKS TO ALL!!

ok so I just got kind of scared.... there's a group interview as well as an individual interview?!?! I had the impression it was a group "orientation" and then we each had our individual interviews. Am I wrong?! Anyone have any idea what the group interview will entail?! Thanks :)

Hmm I thought the "block interview" process just meant that the interview day is sectioned off into blocks (orientation/welcome, lunch, financial aid sessions, personal interviews), and personal interviews are held in different offices at different times. The letter did not state anything about a group interview. I really hope this is correct (or else, I'd be very scared!)

I hope your right!!!

Opps. Didn't mean to scare everyone. I'm sure you're right about it just referring to the set up of the day... let's hope so anyway!!!

I'm almost 100% sure we do not have group interviews.

Just imagine how hectic it would be for YSN staff to arrange group interviews, eek!

About dressing for the interview: Wear something that makes you feel polished, comfortable, and confident. And remember it will be in the 30's and 40's this week and next.

This sounds crazy, but just relax and take care of yourself this week.

You'll feel better and perform better.

Hey Guys!

Clarification: THERE ARE NO GROUP INTERVIEWS! Interviews are all individual, you with one faculty member (and I believe you should already have the name of that faculty member who is interviewing you!)

The rest of the day is group SESSIONS that deal with things like financial aid, your particular specialty, student affairs and diversity, etc.

DRESSCODE: I wore a kick-butt black suit and I wouldn't have done it any other way because wearing a suit puts me into a serious frame of mind! But there were definitely people there who did not have on any semblance of a suit, and they are here this year in the class so, as the previous poster said, do what's best for you, but do take this step of the process seriously because more people are interviewed than are accepted!

Have a safe trip getting here, we can't wait to meet you!

See ya at the potluck,

LP

Any updates on how interviews went?

Hope this finds everyone well.

yup just got back from mine. i think it went okay. i came out with a positive feeling about it, but then again i heard that alot of other people did too, so i'm not sure what it all means.

good luck to everyone who has yet to interview! :)

Just got back from mine too! I had a weird interview... it was not really a conversation, but one in which my interviewer asked me very specific questions, expecting specific answers in a limited time frame. She was transcribing my answers to a worksheet as well. I had so much to say that she had to interrupt me a few times to stop me (limited time). I thought the format was intimidating (I was really nervous) BUT she was positive about it, and she told me that she was to recommend me, but no guarantees. Crossing my fingers. It was a really tiring day.

congrats, bluejune on doing so well!! that's awesome! :)

i'll elaborate on my interview experience a bit more, since it was so different than bluejune's. mine was more of a conversation. the interviewer was basically trying to get a feel for why i wanted to do acute care nursing. she didn't ask me any hard questions, like "how do you handle stress," "what makes you think you can handle these hard classes", or even "why yale?" (i had a friend who was asked these questions), but she did ask things like "what do you see yourself doing after you graduate," "why acute care?", etc. she was really easy going, and she explained to me the whole process that they use to rate applicants (its actually pretty objective). we talked about research for a while (yale is quite research based), and she did ask me what other programs i applied to and what some of my hobbies were, and at the end, she was sort of explaining what its like to live in new haven. it was a pretty laid back interview, and i actually enjoyed it!

i agree that it is a pretty tiring day, but all in all, it was a pretty good experience. good luck to all of you monday interviewees!

BlueJune: Glad you're interview went well. I also had a similar experience during my interview. If you don't mind me asking, who did you interview with?
