Xavier University ABSN Fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Good Day All!!

I wanted to starter this thread as I am curious how many of you are applying, would like to apply, or are waiting for the emissions decision to the ABSN program at Xavier University.

I recently received my acceptance letter, and I am still deciding which school to choose.

Any previous students from this university, could you give some feedback about this program? I heard it was mainly online, I never really studied like this I usually had the in person lectures.

I am looking forward to any feedback you guys could give me, to help me make my decision.

Best,

Thank you for providing this information. If you don't mind me asking, you only had to take out $6,000? That's not bad at all! Isn't the cost around $60,000? How did you cover the rest minus $16,000 if you don't mind me asking?

You’re welcome! Let me break it down for you so my entire tuition for the Fall semester which is 15 credits was $16,805. There is a tuition insurance which basically just means if something medically or personally happens to you, you will be able to get 85% of your tuition back which is $131 but it can be waived so I waived that lol. Which brought it down to $16,674. Also there is health insurance added to the tuition for $3,106 but I have my own health insurance so I waived it so it brought it down to $13,568. For my financial aid I received $10,978 for fall and spring split in half so $5,489 each which brought it down to $8,079. Lastly I applied for a scholarship online and received $2,000 which brought it to the ending total $6,079. I say apply for fafsa and see what you can receive and apply to a bunch of scholarships I have won two already and I saving that money to put towards my spring bill and also always look at your tuition breakdown because there are a lot of fees that can be waived, but of course they keep it hush hush lol just have to be on the look out for that!!

Thank you soooooooooooooooooo much!!!! This was so helpful!!!!! I honestly thought the entire tuition for the program was due all at once so this makes a lot more sense and seems a lot more manageable. I hope you like the program and please share your feedback about it. I'm hoping to start August 2020 doing my pre-reqs now.

You’re so welcome!! I will keep you updated about how the program goes when I start next week!! Good luck with your pre-reqs!! ?

Hi. I'm seriously considering Xavier's ABSN Program, have already been accepted, and am just trying to decide between this program and another program in the area. Anyone have experience with this program they'd be willing to share? Thank you very much!

Anyone have any feedback about the program now that you are halfway through the semester?

Would anyone mind sharing their stats who have been admitted into the ABSN program at Xavier? Cumulative GPA? Pre-Req GPA? Healthcare/volunteer experience? Thanks so much.

Beware!! Go somewhere else if you can! First of all, has anyone noticed how easy it is to get in!?! The admissions does a really good job in selling the school but when you get there is nothing like what they’ve told you. It’s very disorganized and the teachers do not care about you. I’ll tell you some stats! We had 70 people when I started with my cohort now we are down to 60. Mental health is an absolute killer! And the 100% nclex pass rate is a lie!! The program may be in trouble because the last few cohorts have not been passing the nclex! So I’m warning you please so somewhere else. I wish someone would have told me! There are programs out there that are way better and don’t cost as much! Find a more compassionate school that will help you get through nursing.

I’m working though the pre-reqs now and strongly considering doing this program. Can you elaborate a bit more on what you don’t like about it? Thank you!

Hello all,

I just found out I was admitted into this program, but I have been reading some of the responses and I am a little worried. Is there anybody else that can confirm these allegations on here? I also emailed my advisor and quoted this thread so I will see what she says. Thank you!

I am giving you guys the honest truth about this program. Like many I was soooo excited to attend this program I even moved 8 hours away to attend. I’m very disappointed and I regret coming here. The advisors told me this program is not only online but that was false because it is. The program is basically ran by a company called Orbis learning but of course Xavier put their label on it (google it). Xavier is affiliated with the program since they’re essentially paying for Orbis to get their curriculum. First semester you have one clinical a week for 8 hours and two 3 hour labs. Labs is where you practice your skills for example: taking vital signs, inserting a foley, injections etc. However there are no open labs outside of the 3 hours so there is no way to practice your skills. You are tested over your skills called skills check off where you have to verbalize and demonstrate how to give certain injections, inserting Foley’s etc. Lab is a complete joke at times since no one stays on topic. Also, Its very difficult to practice outside lab with the equipment since there are no open labs even expressing concerns to the administration they refuse to open lab for what reason? We all don’t know. No one can learn how to do 5 different injections practicing one time then be expected to demonstrate during skills check offs the following week and perfect it. Another thing is that everything is online. There are no study guides and no lectures. You are given chapters to read in the book, discussion posts, quizzes and exams but there is no direction on what to focus on. We are told to read the book since there are again no study guides and no lectures. Lastly the exams are nothing like what is in the book and the teachers also have no clue what the exams are about since they do not make the exams. The entire program is based off Orbis learning. So the teachers are confused 100% of the time. That’s just first semester. Second semester your lab goes away. No more labs to practice skills you will just have two 12 hour clinicals and that is it. Everything else is online with the same no study guides and no lectures throughout the entire program. To sum everything up you’re essentially getting a BSN online. I suggest apply to a program that has in class lectures where you can get study guides and more human contact where you can ask for help when needed plus seeing your teachers on a daily basis to be successful. This is the absolute honest truth and anyone who is in the Xavier program will vouch that. For more information go on Facebook there are about three different Xavier absn groups where you can talk to upper classman and etc just join the group and wait to be accepted.

Thank you for this information. Sorry if this is too personal of a question but how would you say you finished your first semester? Were you successful? Are you passing? I know you say it is difficult, but overall do you see yourself graduating from the program?

I receive 2 A’s and 1 B term one and the same grades for second term too! I am believing in my faith that I will get through the program on time with my cohort! Second semester I am taking patho, pharm, mental health and adult. Exams will be every week so I hope I do well! *fingers crossed* I heard second semester is the hardest!
