Xavier University ABSN Fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Good Day All!!

I wanted to starter this thread as I am curious how many of you are applying, would like to apply, or are waiting for the emissions decision to the ABSN program at Xavier University.

I recently received my acceptance letter, and I am still deciding which school to choose.

Any previous students from this university, could you give some feedback about this program? I heard it was mainly online, I never really studied like this I usually had the in person lectures.

I am looking forward to any feedback you guys could give me, to help me make my decision.

Best,

I receive 2 A’s and 1 B term one and the same grades for second term too! I am believing in my faith that I will get through the program on time with my cohort! Second semester I am taking patho, pharm, mental health and adult. Exams will be every week so I hope I do well! *fingers crossed* I heard second semester is the hardest!

Congratulations that is awesome! Glad to hear you're doing well. I realize that online structure can be difficult, but it is good to hear that you are actually succeeding. I have taken online courses before and found that I do well in them. I have also taken patho and pharm in the past. I guess what is most important to me is that I am able to be successful in my classes, I pass the NCLEX, and eventually get hired. Have you heard from any students that are about to graduate? Do you know of anyone that has received a job out of the program? Again thank you so much for all of this information, you have been extremely helpful!

Thank you I am honestly trying! It’s so hard to not have any direction of what I am studying but I am trying my hardest. The school is 100% accrediated so yes people have found jobs even before graduation. Make a good rapport with your clinical instructors and the nurses in clinical they can ultimately refer you or even help you get a job before graduation ? I took patho during my undergrad it was in class wasn’t too difficult of a class. Make the best decision that your heart is telling you to attend for nursing school. I wish you all the best in your nursing profession good luck. I will continue to give you guys updates as much as I can as I work my way through the program.

@Futurenurse011, i have to admit that your content is very very VERY helpful, I got accepted into the program and i am supposed to start classes at Xavier Columbus campus. There is so much i would like to discuss with you since i am in the beginning stages of the process. Is there anyway i could contact you via email or text?

So much helpful. I am hearing that the cohort stared with 70 people and are down 60. What i constantly ask my recruiter is the retention rate. meaning how many people graduate vs how many actually start the program. They don't seem to give me the answer i am looking for.

So can you tell me why down 10? is this because they failed?

Also, what is the grading scale? A, B or C. the cutoff?

Everything is online? even test and quizzes>

@Child1 I have been unable to get a straight answer on retention rates as well, which is concerning. Please post here if you learn anything further!

Hey all sorry I’ve been so busy with classes!! Please private message me for details on the questions you would like to know.

As someone who is currently in the program I wanted to make a PSA for all who click on this link in all nurses seeking information regarding the Xavier ABSN Program. DO NOT DO IT. Granted, I joined during COVID, but their solutions during were subpar and a waste of my time and not worth the money (a lawsuit is ongoing). This is coming from a student doing well in the program, but had I known that the people running the program or courses do not communicate with the professors teaching labs and clinicals, I would have not gone. Just an overall sh*tshow of a program

Hello,

thank you for the info. I’m glad I did not go through with the program. I opted out of the admission due to concerns that you just brought up.

I got accepted but I will not go. everyone I am talking to including current students highly regret choosing this program.

NEW UPDATES!! I am dedicated to helping nursing students get a great education and I have some new updates that have been implemented in this program and I want to share it with you all. I have a friend currently in the Spring cohort set to graduate on May 1st. She just told me that they just had a zoom meeting and that Xavier ABSN has changed a policy in the middle of the semester for the last class of nursing school NURS 499 Transition to Professional Nursing. They are changing it to an Exit ATI Exam. The staff said if you do not pass all three ATI proctors for course Nurs 499 with a 70% or above you do not graduate it doesn't matter if you have an A in the class. This is all new! When I graduated Fall 2020 we only had to take a predictor for NURS 499  NCLEX practice but it was not a pass/fail or hindered our graduation at all. The smartest guy in our cohort couldn't even pass it. His scores were like 55-60% it is very difficult since there is no way to really study for ATI exams since the teachers have no clue what are on the exams. I got a 40% from what I remember. It was 160 questions. They are basically trying to weed out the people that will not pass NCLEX to save their NCLEX score since it’s so low and not be on probation, which is so upsetting since nothing about an exit exam was implemented in the student handbook to any of the students prior to starting the program. However, Xavier has changed that as of today. I am so sorry that they are doing this. I thought I would give you a heads up so you will not be alarmed when you get to your last semester of the program that you will have to take an exit exam to graduate nursing school when that has NEVER been a policy in Xavier. I would advise everyone to email the director of the Xavier ABSN to complain, because you signed a handbook at the beginning of starting the program and nothing was said about taking an exit exam to graduate nursing school at Xavier they just randomly decided to do so. You all are paying way too much more to let one exam that they pulled out of the wood works to hinder you from graduating. People in the program are currently protesting it!!
