Writing to the congressmen

Published

Politics! Politics! Politics in healthcare! I am writing to congressman of all the things that is important topics in health care that are not being addressess in politics and the press. So my fellow nurses do you have anything you would likes to add that need to be address to the congressmen and the press? Also if you were write a national healthcare policy, what would it include.

This is a side issue, somewhat related to your topic. My son was recently discharged from the Army, after 7 years of service. He was given no information about healthcare help. He hasn't found a job yet, so can't afford healthcare. He went to the local free clinic when he became ill (and he avoids doctors unless really sick) and after waiting 2 weeks to be seen, was told they couldn't see him because he is a veteran. The local VA clinic, once we found it, can't see him for weeks.

What is the healthcare plan doing for veterans?

That's really sad. I think anyone who serves in our country's military should have a healthcare plan provided to them by the government. For all of their sacrifice, to put their lives on the line for the freedoms in our country, they deserve much better treatment.

Specializes in Acute Care Cardiac, Education, Prof Practice.

After careful planning and research I have already addressed my legislators on my position on health care/insurance reform. I highly recommend doing so, however I hope people are taking time to educate themselves and really think about the specific topics they want to address when they write.

Best of luck!!

I don't know if you would want to introduce this the congressmen but I was recently looking at the news and reviewing how the American Medical Association wasn't so eager to have Universal Healthcare b/c that would mean they would have to treat everyone and even those who have no money. Currently Nurse Practitioners of all concentrations of healthcare can only work independently in their own private practices in certain regions. I feel that if these physicians want to opt out of helping the communities in which they serve in then I feel it would only be right to allow Nurse practitioners to practice nationwide and abide under universal healthcare programs. I feel this would expand the realms of autonomy for nurse practitioners as well as serve persons who wouldn't get prominent care anywhere else. Its an idea but a good idea that could probably change and expand the phase of nursing.... If anyone else feels the same way I feel...feel free to email me at [email protected].

I think there was more to it than not wanting to help the community. There are parts of this plan would require doctors to do their residency where the gov. tells them to. Which means telling them where they have to live. It also sets caps on fees the physicans can charge. There are many parts of this bill that will not only hurt doctors but regular citizens (ie..gov. access to your personal and financial records). I have read parts of what this bill has in it and frankly, it scare the hell out of me. Just because you disagree with it does not mean you don't want to help. It just means this is not the right way to do it.
