i am a RN and always wondered who writes nursing board questions? is it the same people who write the study books like saunders and kaplan? do they employ people to make up the questions? does each state submit questions?or do they come from a computer that writes them? i know this is an off the wall question.. and thank you all in advance.. your awesome..

My instructor told us on our first day that she had gone to the capital several times to meet with other nurses and compile questions for NCLEX.

Here is the NCSBN link that discusses qualifications for item writers and reviewers.

There is a group of nurses who write the questions. Every book known to man is available for them to use. When they get done, there is another group who comes in and reviews them. I was a part of an item review panel and it is pretty awesome to be part of the process. If you are interested, go to the NCSBN website and fill out an application.

I attended a BSN program. One of my instructors was a test item writer. Another one of my instructors sat on the state's disciplinary board. I don't remember either one of them telling how they got these positions.
