Ok everyone how are you packing the wound. This wound is driving me crazy. I seem to keep touching the edges with my gloves. Its driving me nuts. I went to lynn's workshop but the technique she taught me is not working for me. Please help!

We only had a dry dressing change when I took the CPNE, but in the real world, I always used cotton-tipped applicators to help pack a wound while maintaining a sterile field. I'm not sure if they have those available in the CPNE lab, though. Someone more current may have that info.

What technique are you using? I use the accordion method with my non-dominate hand. Works well! Start at the top of the woung and work your way aroung the inside of the wound with your dominate hand. The wet gauge is folded like an accordion in your non dominate hand, pull it out like your doing a magic trick!! Does this make since??

There's also the "parachute" method, as posted on the EPN:

1. Moisten gauze sponge (4x4)

2. Remove from tray and squeeze out excess NS

3. Open sponge to 2 ply (this leaves only 2 jagged edges of cotton gauze)

4. Hold onto one corner in fingers of dominate hand and then place the other three corners into fingers of dominant hand (it should look like an upside down parachute)

5. Bunch up the parachute into your fingers so that it looks like a scrunchy used to clean pots

6. Place this scrunchy into the center of wound

7. Pull out ends of gauze sponge to fill in wound bed

8. Apply outer dressings and tape all 4 edges

9. Label dressing

I've tried it, and it really does work well! :)

Do you like it better then the technique they talked about at lynn's workshop?

I've practiced both, with more success using the parachute method. I just seem to be able to control the sponge better with the parachute method.

Yea thats my problem I keep touching the skin with the gauze. I am going to try that method tonight. Thanks!

I like Karen's Flower Method. You have to check on eBay for her CD.
