Hey, just wondered if any of you have ever switched areas of nursing and taken a pay cut and why did you do it? both are safe areas to work in so it's not that, just a different area of interest. Its significant and we are not rich. Curious what would be someone else's experience and how do you justify a pay decrease? Was it nocs to days, areas of specialty, facility or what? Current is tolerable and same facility, so it's prob not worth it, but the hours are better. What percent would you personally be willing to let go of?
I did it. I was making $27/hour as essentially the ADON at a facility that was 60 miles from my home when I took this job to the tune of $5/hr less. NOW that I live .5 mile away from home and gas is $4/gallon I have decided to focus on going back for my RN which means eventually I am going to have to quit my cush desk job (which does not allow me any patient care time and I seriously dislike that) and go back to working the floor somewhere not nearly as close, weekends again, holidays, BUT I can do it. I want to go forward and am very limited, although very blessed to be where I am, with my current credentials.

I took a $6 per hr cut switching from nocs to days but I think of all the money I won't be taxed on
and I get to sleep at night!
The decrease in pay was offset a bit by now getting certification pay and for our contract renewal we were given a 4.5% increase this year.
I will also be resigning from my per diem LTAC as it definitely is excellent pay but isn't worth losing a license due to unsafe practices and staffing.
