Hello Everyone,
I got accepted into the nursing program for fall of 2016, and I've been feeling very pessimistic when it comes to succeeding. Don't get me wrong, I do want to be a nurse and desire it with all my heart. But I just don't know if I am smart enough to finish the program successfully.
Here is a bit of my background:
~I have completed all my general ed., my nursing prereqs., and all my bachelor classes (except the ones in the program)
~my prereqs. gpa is 3.5 but my overall is 3.3
~I didn't pass my teas test the first time by 3 questions,
then got a 62.8% the second time (I needed at least a 58% to pass).
~I am bilingual
~I do have minor test anxiety
~I have a bit of a medical background (certified medical assistant)
From everything I have mentioned, do I have a chance of finishing the nursing program? I just need to hear words of encouragement; I'm too hard on myself.
Thank you everyone! :)
I did until I read this. Your grades aren't a big concern but you might be too fragile. The referenced post was not remotely close in depth nor number of the discouraging moments you will encounter over the next 5 years or so.
No I'm not too fragile, thanks for the concern though.
I was simply having a bad day like any human being would have.
I work and worked in areas where people curse like a sailer and I dont have any problems with it. Held at gun point as a cashier. I have gone through so much in life, everyone that knows me in person is amazed at how strong I am.
I appreciate the comment though :)
After reading your replies, you weren't looking for encouragement, you were looking for attention. As soon as someone gave you encouragement , you back peddled and said you were strong as you didn't want to appear weak. You came across as needy and insecure...so you got a lot of seemily negative replies. They weren't, but you took it that way. If you want honest feedback, you can find it here! Don't come here looking for a pat on the back from people you don't know. I am just irritated.

Yes, I did take the very first comment negatively because I was having an awful day that day. If you did read through all the comments you would have noticed that I did admit to it.
Thank you for posting. :)
First, the person who said what we think doesn't matter is RIGHT! If you knew my story you'd understand that first hand. You don't have to be smart to be a RN. You have to be dedicated and tenacious. It's a marathon not a sprint. Your grades are fine and a little anxiety is helpful. Stay ahead of the curve, realize 1/3 of what you learn you will unlearn or never use so who cares, and understanding physiology will get you a lot further down the road than memorizing medicines or nursing theory. Do what you gotta do, learn what you have to learn but above all else just don't give up. It's sticking it out that gets you to RN, not grades. Nobody has ever asked about my grades in an interview and I have an associates, two bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees. Hang in there. Visit one hospital and you will see that you do not have to be a genius to be a doctor or a nurse! Persistence not intelligence. Just being real here.
Sure you can. You have the background (I don't know how people that have never worked in medical school pass these classes, I swear it), and you have the drive. You'll have days just like everyone else where you feel like throwing things and screaming. But, again like the successful students, you'll get through them and make it through the hoops.
Hoop after hoop after hoop.

I am starting nursing school this fall. I feel like you wrote this for me. :)
RUN, do not walk to your avhool' disabled students center. You can get accommodations for your test anxiety which can change everything! They may also teach coping skills. Just being able to take the tests in a quiet environment, with extra time may change everything. And the NCLEX will extend the same accommodations I have friends in Nursing school who suffer from pretty severe test anxiety, and we're barely passing. They both took their last 2 tests with accommodations and nailed them. Same test, nobody is feeding you extra info, it's just a different environment and more time, which you may not effective end up using. You have the gpa, and being at the end of my 1st year, if you are passionate, you can do this. It's HARD, but not too hard if you apply yourself. I have shocked myself with what I'm capable of, and gotta say pretty proud of myself too. I was just accepted into an Accelerated BSN program that rings concurrently work my ADN program, and again was shocked that I was accepted into that as well. Pat yourself on the back, you completed those miserable pre-reqs, you got ACCEPTED into nursing school , you are on your way, I'm excited for you!
towards the end of my schooling went thru some substance abuse and whore mongering, also found out my GF was being a whore *not the good type of whore* grandma died house went into forclosure the mcribb stopped selling but somehow still passed my exit exam and nclex within that time span
Look up "Imposter Syndrome"; there's been a lot written about it recently. ( And it wouldn't hurt to watch the classic Wizard of Oz!)
The coursework will be challenging but doable. Working in the medical field will help you with some of the basic skills (as long as you are willing to adapt to alternate methods) and some of the time management. Sound like you have the basic stuff, plus some; you just have to put it together. Concentrate on critical thinking, common sense and especially growing a really thick skin emotionally (lots of head trash and bullying out there), then keep your goal in focus.
You got this- just gotta go get it!

There is this saying that I use a lot when I feel unsure of myself. "Fake it till you make it!" It just means pretend that you can do it until you do it! Asking a bunch of strangers a question like that, just be ready to hear both negative and positive feedback. You have made into the program! Good job! You have done the foot work and now you get to learn the nursing stuff. Don't listen to others, make up your mind and do it! Good luck and keep moving forward! 😃
