ps...my book doesnt SAY FON for LPN so that's why i wondered if there was a difference...i have a lot of highlighting in it and extras written in the margin from school to help me and i'd like to use it, but i didnt want to use it if it wasn't "enough"

You won't really need another fundamentals. Keep it for reference for the CPNE when you get there.

TASHA, I happen to teach LVNs in Texas and I can say that your Fundamentals book is just fine. You would be shocked to see how little the LVN and RN program curriculum differ. Yes, the ADNs get more didactic in disease process, management, more projects and more non-essential nursing lessons. Nursing is Nursing. Some might disagree what I am about to say, but here it goes. I have seen this first hand in my computer lab. LVN student "accidently" signs on the RN hesi exam or NCLEX practice exam, and of course, passes. A good LVN can pass RN NCLEX any day, nursing is nursing. It is the little sheepskin that seperate the two jobs. Although I am an RN, I am always reminding myself where I came from and a strong advocate for LVN practice in this state. LVNs in this great state receive around 800-1200 hours of clinicals, depending on the college. This exceeds the ADN programs usually, in fact, usually exceeds the BSN clincals as well. I always say if you can pass LVN in 12 months (all that curriculum crammed in your head) then you can pass RN program with ease. Excelsior, On campus school, whatever. Use all your old books you can, save money CPNE, classes, CLEPs whatever. CPNE is an awesome experience and I am proud to have done it with no repeats. In fact, everyone in my group (8) all passed with no problems. Great bunch of LVNs and Medics we were!
And when you get rolling and you need some CPNE lab help, I am not far from the "hood", feel free to PM me.

I can do one better of an LPN student accidently doing the RN Hesi or the NCLEX practice exams and passing...
A girl two graduating classes ahead of me in LPN school (6 months seperated our classes) accidently checked the NCLEX RN exam on the NCLEX registration paperwork. She receiced her ATT and scheduled what she thought was the NCLEX PN test. She took the NCLEX RN and PASSED! Bad thing was, she had to reregister for the NCLEX (pay more $ for it), reregister for State Licensing (again more $) and had to retake the NCLEX again, but that time she did the PN one LOL. And yes, she passed the PN exam too.
To the original poster keep your Fundementals of Nursing. Because that book is just what it says..the Fundementals of Nursing. There is no difference in how you insert a cathater as an LPN than it is as an RN, all the basics are the same.
LOL, thanks everyone for your answers! I would have replied sooner but my husband just deployed this week and between crying bouts and taking care of my newborn daughter and 3yr old son, ive been a little tied up!
anyway, i have kept most all of my books from LPN school (and i passed that school with an 80% B average- we had to in order to pass anyway..lol) so i am thankful that i wont have to invest so much into textbooks, as i got kinda scammed into TCN so i have those modules as well! lol..no biggie, though because sometimes i have to read the SAME info just put out in a different way before it clicks!
I'm hoping to get through the EC program in the next 12-15mo while my hubby is gone. #1 because we get a little extra money for him being gone and #2 because i dont have to be a "wife", i only have to focus on being a mom, a nurse and a student instead..lol. Thanks for all the info from you all!
I'm currently doing A&P...YUCK...and was going to move right on into Micro, but i may hold off on micro and try to get through all my NC tests instead. I'm worried about how much the curriculum will change come OCT...blah again...
time to hit the books!
T
Oh, honey, your husband is in my thoughts.
My brother did two stints in Iraq, albeit as a civilian with USAID, and depending on where he's stationed and in what kind of unit the odds of his coming home well are really, really high.
You hang out with us.

Flash cards. Rote memorization.
LOL i know! but i think besides memorizing you do have to understand at least a little how it all works...that's the part i'm having trouble with...it's just SO MUCH info to process! I know if i can get through this though, i will be good to go with the rest of the exams!
